2 General safety instructions

2.1 About this document

Read this manual in its entirety before working with the product. Keep this manual. If you pass the product
on to a third party, also pass on this manual.
Failure to follow this manual may result in personal injury or damage to the product. We accept no liability
for damage resulting from non-compliance with this manual.

2.2 Information on intended use

For KESO Genie BS and Ex-BS, comply with the limit values in accordance with the technical data, see
3.1.Technical data, Seite 69. For use in special environmental conditions, contact your specialist partner.
2.2.1 KESO Genie BS
KESO Genie BS is a mechatronic cylinder and is suitable for use in doors with many or frequently changing
users, such as doors in external accesses, archives or server rooms.
The following is prohibited:
· Use in explosive atmospheres.
There is a risk of explosion due to sparking in the electronics.
Use KESO Genie EX-BS for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
· Use in doors on escape routes with untested door locks.
There is a risk that people will not be able to open the door in dangerous situations and will be injured
or killed.
Contact the manufacturer of the door lock and ensure that the door lock is suitable for use with the
product.
· Independent conversion, modification or repair of the product.
The product may only be used and operated under defined conditions, see 3.1.1 KESO Genie BS, Seite 69.

2.2.2 KESO Genie EX-BS

The explosion-proof KESO Genie EX-BS can be used in all industries except mining. It is suitable for use in
areas where an explosive atmosphere may occur occasionally due to gases, vapours or mists.
The KESO Genie EX-BS complies with the following requirements:
· the essential health and safety requirements laid down in Appendix II of the ATEX product directive
94/9/EC in accordance with EN 60079-0:2004 and EN 60079-11:2007;
· the explosion protection requirements for devices of device group II, category 2G with ignition protec-
tion type "Intrinsic safety".
The KESO Genie EX-BS is marked in accordance with the ATEX product directive and bears the following
EX marking: II 2G Ex ib IIC T4
