Information about body temperature
body temperature of children is approx. 0.9 °F
(0.5 °C) higher than that of adults.
Most people have a lower body temperature
when they sleep; as the day progresses, their
body temperature increases.
Measuring the temperature at different areas
of the body will return different results: The
body temperature measured rectally is nor-
mally approx. 0.54 °F (0.3 °C) higher than in
the mouth and the temperature in the mouth
is in turn 0.54 °F (0.3 °C) higher than the body
temperature measured in the armpit.
To determine body temperature, it is rec-
ommended that you measure your body
temperature when healthy on three to four
consecutive days at different times of the day.
This way, you can determine the normal body
temperature, take note of it and, if necessary,
compare the temperature readings with the
normal readings taken for your body.
Determining your in-ear body
temperature
Research has found that the ear is ideal for
measuring body temperature as the hypo-
thalamus (the area of the brain that regulates
body temperature) and the eardrum are sup-
plied with blood by the same blood vessels. As
a result, changes in body temperature can be
determined sooner and more accurately in the
ear than other parts of the body. It is therefore
