Interaction with the instrument

3.3.1

Screen (touchscreen)

Once the instrument has been
switched on, it indicates the
following information on the
screen.
1 Instrument type/instrument
name
2 Current instrument status
(display)
3 Information about the
location (configurable)
4 Date and time
5 Button for opening the main
menu
6 Currently selected
keyboard layout
Pressing the button opens
a list of available keyboard
layouts for selection.
7 Symbol indicating a
connected external
keyboard
After
switching
on
displaying the Dräger start-up screen, the instrument performs
a self-test lasting approx. 30 seconds. After the self-test and a
purging process, the instrument switches to the warm up
period. After completing the warm up period, the instrument
shows that it is Ready and a measurement can be started.
3.3.2

Turning off the instrument

CAUTION
!
To prevent the instrument from being damaged,
always turn it off using the Shutdown function.
1. Press Shutdown on the screen.
A message confirming the shutdown will be displayed.
2. Confirm the message with YES.
The message Please turn off the device. is displayed.
3. Switch off the instrument:
a. For stationary operation:
Set the power button to "0".
b. For mobile use:
Set the switch on the vehicle connection (12 V direct
current) to "0".

Performing the measurement
4.1

Prerequisites

Measurements of breath alcohol concentration with the
Alcotest 9510 may only be carried out by persons trained in the
instrument.
Ensure that the permissible ambient conditions (see
chapter 12 on page 27) are met.
Waiting and control time before measurement
The following generally applies to carrying out the breath
alcohol measurement:
Observe a waiting time of 20 minutes after the last
consumption of alcoholic beverages before starting the
measurement.
Make sure that no substances are ingested through the
mouth or nose for a period of at least 10 minutes before the
measurement (control time).

Starting a measurement

1. Press the start button to start the measuring process.

If the instrument is in power-save mode (STANDBY is
displayed), press the start button again after the warm up
period to start the measurement.

Depending on the instrument setting, the data of the
person being tested must be entered before measurement.
The start of the measurement is displayed with the
PREPARING TEST message.
Exit the entry of the relevant data with Next or Reset.
4.2.1

Entering data of person being tested

The data entry is selected in the
default setting. But it can also
be
disabled
function.
The figure shows the entry via
the virtual keyboard.  can be
used
to
switch
capitals and lower case letters.
Some
keys of
(internal)
keyboard
multiple
functions,
entering special characters. In this case, a small window
appears after pressing (> 1 sec.) the relevant key, which
displays the available characters. The characters can be
selected by clicking on them.
The instrument supports several keyboard layouts (QWERTZ,
QWERTY and AZERTY).
Alternatively, an external keyboard can also be used.
