Solar Battery Protection 6 W
Item-No. 85 61 03
Intended use
The Solar Battery Protection serves to buffer 12V lead accumulators in cars, motorcycles, boats,
tractors, etc. The solar panel converts solar energy to electric energy and provides a self-sus-
taining buffer. The charge current is sufficient to compensate the spontaneous discharge of lead
accumulators. This preserves the current charge state of the accumulator and prevents over-
charging. A locking diode prevents the discharging of the accumulator via the solar panel in case
of insufficient solar radiation.
You may not charge any Ni-Cd/lithium accumulators or batteries (zinc-carbon, alkaline, etc.).
Observe the polarity of the output plugs!
The solar battery protection may not be used in vehicles which actively participate in road traf-
fic. The charger must be disconnected/unplugged before starting the engine.
Do not use in adverse ambient conditions.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
• Moisture or excessive humidity
• Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvent,
• Strong vibrations
Use, other than described above, is not permitted and can damage the product. Misuse may also
lead to risks such as short circuiting, fire, electrical shocks.
No part of the product may be modified or converted.
Observe the safety instructions under all circumstances!
Safety instructions
Please read the entire operating instructions before using the product for the
first time; they contain important information about the correct operation.
The guarantee/warranty will be void if damage is incurred resulting from non-
compliance with the operating instructions. Liability for any and all conse-
quential damage is excluded!
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases
the guarantee is voided.
This product has been CE-tested and meets the necessary European guidelines.
We kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in this
operating manual to ensure safe operation!
Chargers and accessories should be kept out of the reach of children! They are no toys.
On industrial sites the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial work-
ers' society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
In schools, training centres, hobby and self-help groups, the use of chargers and accessories
should be closely supervised by trained personnel.
When charging accumulators, always observe the charging regulations of the accumulator man-
ufacturer concerned.
Improper handling may destroy the accumulator (wrong polarity) or the panel (dropping). In the
worst case, the accumulator could explode and cause considerable damage. The glass panel
may become damaged when it falls down or is hit by falling objects.
If you have a reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, disconnect it
immediately and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device no longer works and
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- if it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates important notices in these operating
instructions which have to be observed under all circumstances!
The "hand" symbol is used to indicate where specific hints and information on han-
dling are given.

Installation
The solar panel can only provide enough current when it is aligned directly (90°) towards the sun.
To facilitate installation, you can attach the panel on the 4 holes on the side with screws etc. A
spot without shade is ideal. Please observe that any shadows cast on the pane leads to a reduc-
tion of the performance. Always keep the glass surface clean.
Connection
Two different adapters are available for connection. The plug connectors are protected against
wrong polarity and only fit together in the correct polarity. The central contact or the red pole
clamp always corresponds to the plus pole. The external contacts or the black pole clamp cor-
responds to the minus pole.
Adapter plug for the cigarette lighter
Adapter with pole clamps for direct connection to the lead accumulator (red = plus, black =
minus)
Disposal
Disposal of used batteries/rechargeable batteries
As an end user you are legally obligated (Battery regulation) to dispose of exhausted batteries
and rechargeable batteries properly; it is not permitted to dispose of used
batteries/rechargeable batteries in the domestic refuse!
Cleaning
Clean the surface with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive, chemical or caustic cleaning agents.
These will damage the panel.

When connecting, always observe the polarity and the charging instructions of the
accumulator manufacturer concerned.
With some vehicles, the socket of the cigarette lighter is only active when the igni-
tion is turned on. In this case, select the connection with the pole clamps directly on
the accumulator.
Electronic products are raw material and do not belong in the household waste.
When the device has reached the end of its service life, please dispose of it, accord-
ing to the current statutory requirements, at your local collecting site.
Contaminated batteries/rechargeable batteries are labelled with these symbols to
indicate that disposal in domestic waste is forbidden. The symbols for dangerous
heavy metal constituents are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead. You can
return spent batteries/accumulators free of charge at the collection points in your
communities, to our outlets or wherever batteries/accumulators are sold!
You thus fulfil the legal requirements and make your contribution to protecting the
environment!
