Using the Drive

Inserting/Removing the Drive
Refer to "Multimedia Pocket" in the Reference Manual included with your computer for
details on how to insert and remove the drive.
Preparations
Confi rm that [Transfer Mode] is set to [DMA if available] in [start] - [Control Panel] -
[Performance and Maintenance] - [System] - [Hardware] - [Device Manager] - [IDE ATA/
ATAPI controllers] - [Primary IDE Channel] - [Advanced Settings] - [Device 0]. Perform
this setting if it has not yet been made.
Setting a Disk

Turn on the computer.

Press the eject button (A) and slowly
pull out the tray.

Insert/Remove the disk.
To insert
Set the disk with the label side up and press the
center of the disk until it clicks in place.
To remove
Press on the center spindle (B) and carefully lift up the edge of the disk.

Close the tray.
Do not press the eject button.
NOTE
To remove a disk when the computer is powered off, insert a pointed object (e.g.,
the bent-out tip of a paper clip, or the tip of a pencil or ballpoint pen) into the emer-
gency hole (C). Pushing it to the end allows the tray to come out. (The position of
the emergency hole depends on the drive.)
If the vibration of the drive is excessive, check the disk. If the disk is normal and is
inserted correctly, set [CD/DVD Drive Speed] to [Low] in the [Main] menu of the
Setup Utility (
When using B's Recorder, select writing speed [8x] or less to minimize vibration.
For AutoPlay CD:
• If an AutoPlay CD does not start after the computer resumes from standby or hiber-
nation, remove the disk from the drive and then reinsert it after waiting 15 seconds.
• An AutoPlay CD may start during fi le access depending on the status of the disk.
When playing back video from a disk, playback may not be smooth in some condi-
tions.
