Introduction
A welding helmet is a type of headgear used when performing certain types of welding to protect
the eyes, face and neck from flash burn, ultraviolet light, sparks, infrared light, and heat The helmet
consists of several parts (see spare parts list) A passive welding filter protects against UV and IR
radiation and has a fixed darkening level

Safety instructions

Please read the user instructions before using the helmet Check that the front cover lens, the head
band and the passive filter have been correctly fitted The welding helmet must not be used if faults
cannot be remedied
Warnings & safety restrictions
Heat and radiation that can cause eye and skin injuries are emitted during the welding process This
product provides eye and face protection Appropriate additional safety clothing must be worn to
protect the rest of the body Some people may suffer allergic reactions to particles and substances
that are released during the welding process Materials that come into contact with skin may cause
allergic reactions to susceptible persons
The welding helmet may only be used for welding, and for no other purpose Optrel will not accept any
liability if the welding helmet is used for any other purpose or the user instructions are disregarded
The helmet must always be used with the passive filter and suitable lenses Never use uncertified
passive filters or lenses Spectacle wearers must be aware that the helmet can be deformed so much
by strong impact energy that the spectacles may also be deformed The helmet is suitable for all of
established welding procedures except for gas and laser welding Please pay attention to the shade
level recommendation in accordance with EN169 on the envelope
The welding helmet may not be used for overhead welding, since there is a risk of injury from falling
melted metal
Warranty & Liability
The guarantee conditions can be found in the instructions from the national sales organisation of
Optrel Please contact your Optrel dealer for more information concerning this matter The warranty
only applies to material and manufacturing defects In the event of damage caused by improper use,
unauthorised intervention or use for a purpose that is not intended by the manufacturer, the warranty
and liability will be null and void Likewise, liability and the warranty are no longer valid if spare parts
other than those sold by Optrel are used
Expected Lifetime
The welding helmet has no expiration date The product can be used as long as no visible or invisible
damage or functional problems occur
Usage (see envelope)
1 Head band Please adjust the upper adjusting strap (1) to your head size Depress ratchet knob
(2) and rotate until the head band sits firmly yet comfortably
2 Eye distance and helmet inclination The distance between the passive filter and the eyes
is adjusted by releasing the locking knobs (3) Adjust to the same extent at both sides without
jamming Then retighten the locking knobs The helmet inclination can be adjusted using the
rotary knob (4)
3 Shade level The helmet is supplied from the factory with a DIN 11 passive filter Passive filters
from DIN 8 to DIN 13 are available
Cleaning and desinfection
The passive filter and the front cover lens must be cleaned with a soft cloth at regular intervals No
strong cleaning agents, solvents, alcohol or cleaning agents containing scouring agent must be used
Scratched or damaged lenses must be replaced
Storage
The welding helmet must be stored at room temperature and with low air humidity
Replacing the front cover lens
1 Hold the wing of the front cover lens (7)
2 Push the lens against the opposite side of the holding frame (8)
3 Remove the lens sidewards
4 Hold the wing of the new front cover lens
5 Push the lens against the opposite side of the holding frame (9)
6 Insert the lens into the holder (10)
Removing / installing the passive filter (see envelope)
1 Release retention spring as shown (5)
2 Carefully tilt out passive filter with lenses (6)
Installation takes place in the reverse order
Troubleshooting
Poor vision
→ Clean front cover lens and passive filter
→ The shade level of the passive filter must be appropriate for the work that is being carried out
→ Increase amount of ambient light
Safety helmet slipping
→ Readjust/tighten head band
