Introduction

The VETUS fully automatic battery charger is specially designed
for quick and efficient charging of many types of lead/acid bat-
teries (both open and sealed batteries, starter, semi-traction and
traction batteries, fluid or gel filled).
The maximum charge current is 15 Amps. As the charge current
is regulated automatically in accordance with an ideal charge
characteristic, the charger may be connected continuously,
even during winter storage.

Operation

On the control panel there is an 'ON/OFF' switch (2).
The battery charger can also be switched on without the pres-
ence of 220/240 Volt dockside mains.
The charger will then start charging automatically when power
is being supplied from the dockside mains or generator set.
Remote Control
With the supplied remote control switch the battery charger can
be switched on and off. The switch on the battery charger must
be permanently in position 'ON'. This remote control switches a
control voltage (low voltage) and not the 220 Volt supply
voltage!

Installation

Location
Choose a dry, well ventilated, place well away from any heat
source. High temperatures can have a negative effect on the
power output of the equipment. Position the battery charger
close to the battery to reduce power loss in the 12 Volt cables
as much as possible. It is better to extend the 220 Volt input
wiring if required. Do not place the battery charger immediately
above the battery; sulphur fumes from the battery can damage
the electronic components.
Install the battery charger preferably to a bulkhead.
Keep in mind that a wooden bulkhead can amplify sound vibra-
tions. Therefor keep the battery charger away from berths
where even a soft hum is annoying.
Connecting the Battery
For wiring diagram, see page 25.
Connect the red connector clamp from the charger to the Plus
(+) battery pole and the black connector clamp to the minus (-
) pole. Use cables of sufficient thickness and use the cable ter-
minals supplied.

WARNING
Heavy current through wiring that is too thin, or resistance
caused by bad connections, can generate excessive heat
and could cause a fire!
Mains Connections
Connect the charger to a 220 Volt (240 Volt) socket with Earth
connection, using the mains cable connected. Only use exten-
sion cables with properly earthed plugs and sockets.
The charger can be connected to the boat's earth via the M5
bolt on the side panel.
