What do I need to know about the infant/child pads cartridge?
• The infant/child pads cartridge is designed for use with the HeartStart
HS1 Defibrillators. When used with the infant/child pads cartridge, the
defibrillator delivers a lower-energy shock, and the optional CPR
Coaching is tailored for use on a child.
• To keep the pads from drying out, keep the infant/child pads cartridge
in its unopened foil pouch. Store it near your defibrillator, until you
need to use the pads. It is recommended that you store the HeartStart
Defibrillator with an adult pads cartridge installed.
• Be sure to note the expiration date of the pads cartridge when you
receive it.
• CPR for infants and children is different than for adults. It is important
to get training in infant/child CPR.
• If you have concerns about your child's health, be sure to talk to your
child's doctor.
How do I know when to use the infant/child pads cartridge?
• Use the infant/child pads on an infant or a child less than 8 years old or
weighing less than 55 pounds (25 kg) who may be in sudden cardiac
arrest (SCA).
• If you are not sure of the child's exact age and weight, or if infant/child
pads are not available, do not delay treatment.
• Use adult pads but place one pad on the chest and one in the center of
the back, as shown in Emergency Instructions, below.
• A victim of sudden cardiac arrest does not respond when shaken, and
is not breathing normally. If in doubt, apply the pads.
