Installation

Location
Choose a dry place well away from any heat source. High tem-
peratures can have a negative effect on the power output of the
equipment. Position the battery charger close to the battery to
reduce power loss in the 12 Volt resp. 24 Volt cables as much
as possible. It is better to extend the 220 Volt output wiring if
required. Do not place the battery charger immediately above
the battery; sulphur fumes from the battery can damage the
electronic components.
Fit the battery charger using the fitting parts supplied.
Connecting the Battery
For wiring diagram, see page 32.
Connect the red connector clamp from the charger to the
plus (+) battery pole and the black connector clamp to the
minus (-) pole.
Use cables of sufficient thickness and use the cable terminals
supplied. For wire size selection table see page 31.
WARNING
High current through wiring that is too thin, or resistance
caused by bad connections, can generate excessive heat
and could cause a fire!
Mains Connections
Connect the charger to a 220 Volt (240 Volt) socket with Earth
connection, using the mains cable supplied. Only use extension
cables with properly earthed plugs and sockets.
Earth
The charger can be connected to the boat's earth using the M5
bolt (
) on the control panel.
WARNING!
Earthing 220 Volt (240 Volt) electrical equipment on board
a ship that is NOT connected to an earth-leak protected
dockside socket is only useful when there is an earth-leak
protection or a frame insulation installation (floating mains).
Please consult your installer for more information.
Furthermore, local regulations are applicable here, and
these differ from country to country, and the use to which
the boat is put is also important, as there are often special
regulations applied to commercial and especially passen-
ger shipping.
VETUS cannot accept any responsibility for the charger if it
is used in contravention to the local regulations.

Remote Control Panel
A remote control panel is fitted with a 6 metre long cable with
plug. Push this plug in the 'REMOTE CONTROL' socket on the
control panel.
Battery temperature Sensor
If the batteries are likely to become hot due to use in tropical
regions, or for other reasons, then it is recommended that the
charging characteristics be modified to accommodate high
temperature use. This is done using the temperature sensor,
available as an option from Vetus.
This battery temperature sensor should also be connected to
the 'REMOTE CONTROL' socket.
It will then be necessary to set the battery charger using the
miniature switch. See 'OPERATIONAL SETTINGS'.
