Using the CPL50
Laser Offset
Use the laser offset information
provided in the illustration to speed
plumbing and leveling operations.
1 1/4" (32mm)
Pendulum lock
(Off position)
The CPL50 is a precision instrument and should be treat-
ed with care; it uses a pendulum mechanism for self-lev-
eling. When not in use, the pendulum should always be
in the Off position. Locking the pendulum allows it to bet-
ter withstand vibration during transportation or if the unit is dropped.
When using the laser, put it in either the locked line angle (middle position) or
automatic leveling (unlocked/far right position).
Locked line angle
In the locked line angle position, the pendulum is in the
locked position and will not automatically level or plumb
the lines. Use this mode to match an angle between any
two points.
When in the locked line angle position, both the horizontal and vertical beams
will be on. The green LED will blink to indicate
you are in this manual mode.
Note: The unit cannot be changed between
the level line mode and vertical plumb line
mode while in the locked angle position.

Automatic leveling
When the pendulum is unlocked, it is free to automati-
cally level or plumb. The green LED will be on.
In order for the CPL50 to automatically level, it must be
within 5 degrees of level.
If the unit is 5 degree or more out of level, the laser beams and the red LED
will blink. If it's out of level over 3 minutes, the beams will shut off automatically.
To restart the unit, the pendulum lock should be pushed to the Off position,
and then pushed On again (far right position) to start.
LINE button:
Choose level, plumb, or cross lines
Press the LINE button on the top of the laser for 3 line choices. In addition, the
unit has a plumb up and down beam which is always on when the unit is on.
Use the line options button to cycle through the level (horizontal), plumb (ver-
tical fan), or cross line modes, as shown in the illustration.
MODE button for detector use
To work outdoors, use the optional laser detector. Put the laser in pulse mode
(necessary for the detector to pick up the beam) by pressing the MODE button.
The Pulse LED will go on. Press again to leave this mode.
