Commissioning
Risk of injuries and damage to property!
If the product has not been assembled correctly, personnel may be injured and
the product or system damaged when commissioned.
O Make sure that the product has been assembled by qualified personnel before
commissioning the product/system. Only use rods from our delivery (Ø 12, 16,
20 and 25 with tolerance range f9).
O Commission the system in which the locking unit is installed as described in the
system's operating instructions.
Commissioning for the first time
Uncontrolled piston rod movement!
A risk of injury is involved when releasing the locking unit if the piston rod is stuck
in an intermediate stroke position and pressure was applied to just one cylinder
chamber. This results in the piston rod moving uncontrollably through the
residual stroke (extending or retracting) when the locking unit is released).
O When actuating the pneumatic cylinder with the locking unit attached ensure
that pressure is applied to both cylinder chambers during the locking time.
O Commission the system in which the locking unit is installed as described in the
system's operating instructions.

Operation

Risk of injury while working on a running system!
Working while the system is running can cause major injuries from moving
machinery.
O Maintain enough safety clearance.
O Do not work on the system while it is running.
No intervention is required while the system is running.

Service and Repairs
Cleaning and servicing
The water pressure of a high-pressure cleaner can damage the pneumatics and
the seals of the product.
O Do not use high-pressure cleaners for cleaning.
Aggressive detergents can damage the seals of the product and cause them to
age faster.
O Never use solvents or strong detergents.
O Only clean the locking unit using a slightly damp cloth. Only use water to do this
and, if necessary, a mild detergent.
Maintenance
The locking unit is free from maintenance if used as intended.

Disassembly and Exchange
Disassembling and exchanging the locking unit
Risk of injury due to moving system parts and suspended useful loads!
Risk of injury is involved if assembly work is carried out on the product while the
system is running! With the system at a standstill, there is also a risk of injury
from stored energy (compressed air) and suspended useful loads.
O Bring the system mode into a state in which working movements are no longer
possible. Wait until all moving machine parts come to a standstill, and protect
the system against being switched on.
O Generally avoid storing compressed air.
O Remove all other sources of danger in the immediate work area that may
result from stored energy in the system.
O Guide the useful loads into a safe position or remove them from the system.
O You may only then switch off the pressure in the relevant section of the
system.
LU1e/LU2 locking unit
1. Make sure the system is not under pressure or voltage before disassembly.
2. Apply compressed air to the release pilot connection (LU2: P
3. Remove the locking unit from the piston rod.
4. Assemble the new locking unit (see Fixing the LU1e locking unit (see
Fixing the LU2 locking unit (see
LU1 locking unit
1. Release the locking unit either mechanically or pneumatically:
– Mechanical: turn the release screw into the release pilot connection.
– Pneumatic: apply compressed air at P
connection
2. Remove the locking unit from the piston rod.
3. Assemble the new locking unit (see Fixing the LU1 locking unit (see
10 Disposal
Scrap the device in accordance with local regulations.
11 Extension and Conversion
The warranty from AVENTICS only applies to the delivered configuration and
extensions that have been taken into account in the configuration. The warranty
expires immediately in the event a conversion or extension is made that is not
covered by the conversions or extensions described here.
O Do not convert this product.
