Checking power supply

The measurement unit and the system tester KTS 5xx
are supplied with power by way of a jack with a con-
nector power pack 1 687 022 980 (15 V) and via the
Y-cable 1 684 448 309.
i
A digital multimeter is required for these checks.
5.1.1

KTS 5xx power supply

1. Insert the jack plug of the power pack at the KTS
5xx.
2. Plug in the mains connector of the power pack at a
socket.
3. The green power supply LED on the KTS 5xx must
flash.
i
The LED is located on the side next to the connector
inlet for the power pack.
i
Further information on checking and repair of the
KTS 5xx can be found in the following documenta-
tion:

Measurement unit power supply

1. Insert the jack plug of the power pack at the mea-
surement unit.
2. Plug in the mains connector of the power pack at a
socket.
3. The green power supply LED on the measurement
unit must flash.
i
The LED is located on the underside of the measure-
ment unit at the temperature measurement input.
In the event of a fault:
1. Check the Y-cable 1 684 448 309 for continuity.
2. Measure the output voltage of the power pack.
3. Replace the power pack.

Checking temperature measurement
input
i
The P 140 tester and a reference temperature sensor
are required for this purpose.
1. Unplug the connector of the temperature sensor.
2. Select "Test steps >> Multimeter" in the FSA.
3. Connect the P 140 temperature signal cable to the
temperature measurement input.
4. Supply the P 140 with 12 V DC via the banana jacks
or the power pack.
5. Switch between 80° C and 120° C with the toggle
switch on the P 140.
6. Temperature measurement input with reference
temperature sensor
? If the temperature measurement input is intact,
the corresponding temperature values are dis-
played in the measurement program.
5.3

Checking B+/B- input

i
The P 100 tester and a reference digital multimeter
are required for checking the B+/B- input.
i
When checking B+/B- with the P 140, an incorrect
speed is displayed on the unit if measurement is
started at higher speeds (e. g. 4000 1/min instead of
idle or 600 1/min).
1. Check the cable 1 684 460 195 for continuity by way
of a resistance measurement.
2. Select "Test steps >> Multimeter" in the FSA.
3. Connect the terminals of the cable 1 684 460 195 to
the B+ / B- output of the P 100.
4. Switch on the P 100.
? A value of 12 V is displayed if the B+/B- input is in-
tact.
5.4

Checking term. 1/term. 15 input

i
The P 100 tester is required for this purpose.
1. Check the measurement cable separately for conti-
nuity using a multimeter.
2. Select "Test steps >> Ignition/primary >> Full adap-
tion" in the FSA.
3. Insert the banana plugs of the measurement cable in
the term. 1 and term. 15 sockets on the P 100.
4. Switch on the P 100.
? The corresponding values are displayed in the
measurement program if the term. 1/term. 15 in-
put is intact.
