CAUTION
Do not expose directly your eye to the light by looking
into the light.
If your eye is continuously exposed to the light, your
eye w ill be hurt.
7. M ounting and dismounting of the bit
(1) M ounting the bit
Loosen the sleeve by turning it tow ard the left (in the
counterclockw ise direction as view ed from the front)
to open the clip on the keyless chuck. After inserting
a driver bit, etc., into the keyless drill chuck, and
tighten the sleeve by turning it tow ard the right (in
the clockw ise direction as view ed from the front).
(See Fig. 9)
If the sleeve becom es loose during operation, tighten
it further.
The tightening force becom es stronger w hen the
sleeve is tightened additionally.
(2) Dism ounting the bit
Loosen the sleeve by turning it tow ard the left (in the
counterclockw ise direction as view ed from the front),
and then take out the bit etc. (See Fig. 9)
NOTE
If the sleeve is tightened in a state w here the clip of
the keyless chuck is opened to a m axim um lim it, a
click noise m ay occur. This is the noise that occurs
w hen the loosening of the keyless chuck is prevented
and is not a m alfunction.
CAUTION
When it is no longer possible to loosen the sleeve,
use a vise or sim ilar instrum ent to secure the bit. Set
the clutch m ode betw een 1 and 11 and then turn the
sleeve to the loose side (left side) w hile operating the
clutch. It should be easy now to loosen the sleeve.
8. Automatic spindle-lock mechanism
This unit has autom atic spindle-lock m echanism for
quick bit changes.
9. Confirm that the battery is mounted correctly
10. Check the rotational direction
The bit rotates clockw ise (view ed from the rear side)
by pushing the R-side of the selector button.
The L-side of the selector button is pushed to turn the
bit counterclockw ise. (See Fig. 10) (The
m arks are provided on the body.)
11. Using the hook (Sold separately)
The hook is used to hang up the pow er tool to your
w aist belt w hile w orking.
CAUTION
When using the hook, hang up the pow er tool firm ly
not to drop accidentally.
If the pow er tool is dropped, it m ay lead to an accident.
When carrying the pow er tool w ith hooked to your
w aist belt, do not fit any bit to the tip of pow er tool. If
the sharp bit such as drill is fitted to the pow er tool
w hen carrying it w ith hooked to your w aist belt, you
w ill be injured.
Install securely the hook. Unless the hook is securely
installed, it m ay cause an injury w hile using.
(1) Placing the hook and tightening the screw s.
Install securely the hook in the groove of pow er tool
and tighten the screw s to fix the hook firm ly. (Fig. 11)
(2) Rem oving the hook.
Rem ove the screw s fixing the hook w ith Phillips screw
driver. (Fig. 12)

12. Sw itch operation
When the trigger sw itch is depressed, the tool rotates.
When the trigger is released, the tool stops.
The rotational speed of the drill can be controlled by
varying the am ount that the trigger sw itch is pulled.
Speed is low w hen the trigger sw itch is pulled slightly
and increases as the trigger sw itch is pulled m ore.
NOTE
A buzzing noise is produced w hen the m otor is about
to rotate; This is only a noise, not a m achine failure.
M AINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
1. Inspecting the tool
Since use of a dull tool w ill degrade efficiency and
cause possible m otor m alfunction, sharpen or replace
the tool as soon as abrasion is noted.
2. Inspecting the mounting screw s
Regularly inspect all m ounting screw s and ensure
that they are properly tightened. Should any of the
screw s be loose, retighten them im m ediately. Failure
to do so could result in serious hazard.
3. M aintenance of the motor
The m otor unit w inding is the very " heart" of the
pow er tool.
Exercise due care to ensure the w inding does not
becom e dam aged and/or w et w ith oil or w ater.
4. Cleaning on the outside
When the driver drill is stained, w ipe w ith a soft dry
cloth or a cloth m oistened w ith soapy w ater. Do not
use chloric solvents, gasoline or paint thinner, for
they m elt plastics.
5. Storage
Store the driver drill in a place in w hich the tem pera
ture is less than 40°C and out of reach of children.
NOTE
M ake sure that the battery is fully charged w hen
stored for a long period (3 m onths or m ore). The
battery w ith sm aller capacity m ay not be able to be
charged w hen used, if stored for a long period.
NOTE
Storing lithium -ion batteries
and
M ake sure the lithium -ion batteries have been fully
charged before storing them .
Prolonged storage of batteries w ith a low charge
m ay result in perform ance deterioration, significantly
reducing battery usage tim e or rendering the batteries
incapable of holding a charge.
How ever, significantly reduced battery usage tim e
m ay be recovered by repeatedly charging and using
the batteries tw o to five tim es.
If the battery usage tim e is extrem ely short despite
repeated charging and use, consider the batteries
dead and purchase new batteries.
6. Service parts list
CAUTION
Repair, m odification and inspection of Hitachi Pow er
Tools m ust be carried out by a Hitachi Authorized
Service Center.
This Parts List w ill be helpful if presented w ith the
tool to the Hitachi Authorized Service Center w hen
requesting repair or other m aintenance.
In the operation and m aintenance of pow er tools, the
safety regulations and standards prescribed in each
country m ust be observed.
