5. Operation
The Marten-Mouse-Repellent produces an acoustic signal with a frequency of 12 - 23
kHz at intervals of around 35 seconds for 5 seconds on and 30 seconds off period. In
addition the device has a high-voltage plate which is charged up by a capacitor in the
device to around 300 Volts. The green LED lights up every 30 seconds for 5 seconds
when the ultrasonic frequency is being emitted or when the high voltage is triggered.
The contact plates are installed in the engine compartment so that an intruding marten
or mouse, when stepping on one of the two external plates, will get a painful, but not
lethal, electric shock. During the charging of the capacitor, the animal has the chance
to flee the engine compartment. As a third marten-mouse deterrent function, an LED
light flashes 4 times when the high voltage is triggered, which scares and repels the
intruders.
The device is assembled in the engine compartment of the car. It should be installed
in a place in the engine compartment that is protected from splash water and general
dirt. The high voltage modules should be placed in areas where a marten will most likely
pass through. The device is triggered by vibration and will automatically switch on when
the ignition is off, and will switch off when the ignition is on. The installation of the
device should only be done by a qualified person.
It is essential to ensure that the metal surfaces of the platelets are not exposed to
strong soiling or constant wetness. This could produce leakage currents, which may
cause a short circuit, resulting in failure of the high voltage. Normal humidity does not
affect the device's application.
When mounted, the device is turned on using the switch. When the device is switched
on, the white light and the green LED light up and then go out. The green LED lights
up permanently when function is activated and the plates are under high voltage. The
red LED indicates that an ultrasonic sound is being emitted. When the voltage of the
battery drops <3.2 volts, the green LED is briefly activated 3 times and a signal tone can
be heard every 60 seconds. Please replace the batteries. The device must be switched
off with the switch and after about 60 seconds (drain of the high voltage) it can be
removed. The unscrew the bottom plate and change the batteries. It is recommended
to clean the contact surfaces before mounting on the mounting plate. The fixing rubber
for the device should always be used when mounting the device in the vehicle for fixa-
tion so that the device does not fall off the bracket.
