Important notes

Standards and regulations
The relevant standards, guidelines, regulations and laws of the country con-
cerned must be noted when planning and installing electrical equipment.
Work on the 230 V mains supply may only be undertaken by duly authorized
and qualified personnel.
Danger
The device must be protected against moisture, dirt and damage during
transport, storage and operation. It may only be operated in accordance
with the specified technical data.
Function
The ARGUS presence detector detects the slightest movement within a
radius of approx. 4 m. The device is designed for use in offices, schools,
public and private buildings, etc. The detection range is subdivided into five
levels with 71 zones and 284 switching segments. Registered movements
are evaluated by the device and output via two different relay channels.
Channel 1 operates in accordance with the brightness and controls the
lighting in the room. The brightness is constantly measured by the integra-
ted light sensor and compared with the threshold value (10 - 1000 lux) set
on the device. The lighting is not switched on by channel 1 when the
ambient light is sufficiently bright. If the brightness drops below the thres-
hold value, the channel is activated by every movement in the room. The
ambient brightness is measured again when the lighting has been switched
on; the resultant difference in brightness is then calculated and added to
the set threshold value. This yields a new threshold which is constantly
compared with the actual ambient brightness. If the ambient brightness
exceeds the newly calculated threshold, the ARGUS presence detector will
switch off the lighting even if movement is still detected in the room. This
function saves energy, particularly in highly frequented rooms.
Channel 2 only responds to movements, regardless of the ambient bright-
ness and with greater safety against false alarms. This output allows the
ARGUS presence detector to be used to control the heating, air-conditio-
ning or ventilation, as well as for surveillance.
