CHAIN ADJUSTMENTS
(Fig. 26)
To gain access to chains, remove the chain case cover.
When correctly adjusted all three transmission chains
should be slightly slack in all positions.
Check to ensure there are no tight spots.
If adjustment is necessary:
Chain A:
Chain A has self adjusting Chain guides (D and E).
When all adjustment has been taken up, chain guide
(D) can be moved to hole (F).
Chain B:
Slacken nuts (H) and rotate the adjuster (G) in its slot,
either towards or away from the chain until the Floating
guide (J) has tensioned Spring (K). Retighten nuts (H).
Chain C:
Slacken nut (L). Rotate guide (M) until there is no
slack in the chain and there is no tightening when the
drive is rotated.
NOTE: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
Re-check to ensure that there are no tight spots on any
of the chains. Replace chain case.
BACKLAPPING THE CUTTING UNIT
(Fig. 26)
The keen cutting edges of the spiral cutters can be
maintained by the process of 'backlapping'.
1. Tilt the machine backwards.
2. Check the cutting cylinder is set correctly to
the bottom blade (see previous note).
3. Disengage the cylinder clutch (61cm-24in
machine only) and landroll clutch.
4. Remove the chain case cover.
5. Smear some carborundum paste* on the
spiral cutters.
6. Rotate the cutting cylinder clockwise by
using a socket spanner and brace on the
screw (N) at the LH end of the cylinder
spindle.
