3. Device Description

The filter holder is designed to accommodate up two Sartocon Slice 200 crossflow
®
cassettes. The filter holder is optimized for use in biopharmaceutical applications
ranging from 20 mL to 5 L and is particularly suited for the concentration,
deionization, depyrogenation and fractionation of liquids.
The filter holder's simplicity of use facilitates every step involved in the micro- and
ultrafiltration of crossflow applications, thereby making it easy to replace the
cassettes fast.
The Sartocon ® Slice 200 crossflow cassettes have the same flow channel dimensions
as do Sartocon ® process filtration cassettes and are therefore ideal for your scaling
studies. Typical areas of application include the concentration and diafiltration of:
Vaccines, IgG, albumin, antibodies as well as scaling and membrane screening studies
in product development.
The most important features of the filter holder are:
− Minimal hold-up volume that allows high concentration
− Self-draining and self-venting thanks to vertical positioning
− Suitable for the processing of valuable products
− Ensures safe and reliable connections to ancillary equipment thanks to female
stainless steel Luer lock connectors.
The product plate is stationary and has a feed inlet connection in its lower section;
the upper section has an outlet for the retentate. Two outlet connections are
provided on each side for the permeate. The product plate and the clamping plate
have highly polished interior surfaces, which allow for thorough cleaning and provide
a perfect seal for filtration.
No additional seals are needed for the seal between cassettes and plates. With the
tensioning nuts loosened and the clamping plate pull rod removed, the cassette can
be raised out of the filter holder.
In this way, the filter cassettes can be easily and safely installed or replaced.
After installation of the cassettes, the tensioning nuts are adjusted using the torque
wrench provided. The adjustable feet ensure stability.
