(5) Application areas and installation instructions

FT 500 has been designed for use with dust-intensive work at changing workplaces. The unit serves
the industrial safety and health protection, safeguards the remediation target and increases the
efficiency of the work. Air filtration and sufficient fresh air supply ensures hygienically unobjectionable
ambient air. Health protection and working conditions of the employees are improved. This increases
the work performance at the same time. Unaffected areas and residents are protected against
detrimental particles from spreading.
The contaminant concentration can be reduced significantly by keeping the suction unit as closely as
possible to the emission source of harmful dusts (by professional arrangement of the suction hose) or
if this cannot be carried out sufficiently effective, by separation and arrangement of a directed air flow
to remove the hazardous matter. The air filter can be used for ventilation or suction with air purification
at the same time.
If there is a risk that the suction system passes the hazardous material to the workplace (such as in
channels of adjacent waste water pipes or for example in case of several not especially locatable
emission sources of gases in the surroundings), a blowing ventilator should be preferred.
Note: If high volumes of dust develop through electrically operated devices, such as parting-off
grinders or wall grinders, sufficient air purification cannot be achieved by the use of an air filter.
Use suitable low-dust processing machines with direct suction on the machine ! Here air filters can
have a supporting function in case of insufficient collection of dusts by the processing machine.
CAUTION: Work in refurbishment areas requires corresponding expertise. The air filter may be
operated in refurbishing areas only in case of corresponding expertise. The local trade association will
inform you about the required proof of expertise.
Setting up the air filter
Blowing ventilation: The air filters is set up in an area, in which the aspiration of hygienically
unobjectionable air is ensured. In order to increase the air volume delivered, the main filter element
can be removed (under observation of the safety precautions - see chapter on filter cleaning / change
of filter), if at the same time dirty pre-filters are replaced by clean pre-filters. At the outlet of the air
filter, lay the air hoses to the work place. Ensure laying of the air hoses as free from kinks and in
straight line as possible.
Suction of contaminated air directly at the workplace (workplace = source of the air pollution): If
set up for suction, the device has to be fitted with at least one intake or exhaust air hose in order to
prevent that the exhaust air is drawn back in ("aerodynamic short-circuit"). Without intake and/or
exhaust air hose, a sufficient air filtration can be achieved in small rooms only.
Room ventilation, ventilation of hermetically-sealed areas: By means of room ventilation, a whole
working area shall be ventilated to remove air pollution otherwise not collected. Best possible effect of
the air filter can be achieved only when the suction hose (or the intake hose is used for ventilation
only) in case of a known emission source is arranged in such a way that soiled air is directed away
from the employee and the suction is setup as closely as possible to the emission source.
In order to achieve a uniform room aeration it is necessary to arrange the supply air in such a way that
the air flow can pass through the entire room if possible from the air supply to the exhaust air
collection. For this purpose, several air supply systems (closable, if necessary) may be required for
larger rooms or in case of changing workplaces. The air supply system should be fitted with a non-
return valve or with filter elements in a partition wall so that it can be prevented that polluted air can
leave the room when the ventilation system has been switched off.
If the purified air can be returned back to the room ("circulating air operation", observe national
regulations !), the exhaust hose with the outlet opening of the filtered air can be arranged as far away
from the suction hose as possible. Ensure sufficient fresh air inlet.
