Alpha Charger
Read these instructions before using the charger
- This product is for indoor use only. Do not expose water or dust.
- To avoid overheating, the charger must not be covered whilst in use
- The 12V charger is designed for with 12V lead acid batteries (6 cells). For safety reasons some
battery types must be of minimum 11Ah capacity if used with this charger. Check with the battery
manufacturer if you are unsure. Maximum recommended battery capacity for which the charger
can be used is normally 30Ah.
The mains outlet must be easily accessible. Should a faulty condition occur remove the plug from
the mains outlet immediately. High voltage inside! Do not remove the cover! All service or main-
tenance must be done by trained personnel who can get the necessary technical dokumentation
from the manufacturer. The product is also designed for IT Power System.
Features
- 3 step charge control for safe, fast charging of lead acid batteries.
- Two voltage levels, bulk charge (e.g. 14.7V) and standby (e.g. 13.8V).
- LED indicator with three different colours show the charge status.
- Built in timer for prolonged boost – (<<100uA) when mains is disconnected
- Reverse polarity protection
- Automatic start of a new charging cycle when battery voltage drops (if the battery is connected to
a load during charging)
Charging Instructions
1) For open lead acid batteries: check the electrolyte in the battery. Top up with distilled water to
5-10mm over the plates if necessary.
2) Do not connect the charger to the mains before it is connected to the battery. (This is to avoid
sparks which could ignite flammable gases).
3) Observe correct polarity when connecting to the battery terminals. If the battery is still connected
to the vehicle system make the connection to the terminal connected to the vehicle chassis last.
4) If you cannot connect directly to the battery terminals ensure that connections are not near petrol
pipes etc.
5) Connect the charger to the mains.
6) When charging is complete, disconnect from the mains before removing battery connections. The
connections to the vehicle chassis should be removed before that from the other battery terminal.
