notes on start-up and handling of
the device.
• Always keep the enclosed operating
instructions so as to be able to look
up information!
• They must be enclosed when pass-
ing the device on to third parties.

4. Intended use

• The device is designed for charging
1-4 rechargeable mignon (AA) and
micro (AAA) NiCd and NiMH batter-
ies. Only use the enclosed power
pack (100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz) or
the car adapter (12 V DC) for con-
necting to the cigarette lighter con-
necting socket of your vehicle.
• ALG 2500 is only suitable for use in
dry rooms. Avoid contact with mois-
ture.
• Any other use of the device than
described above can damage the
product or endanger the user due to
e. g. short-circuits, fire or an electric
shock.
• The entire product make neither be
modified, adapted nor opened.
• Always observe the safety notes!

5. Safety notes

Any warranty claim is void in
the case of damages caused
by non-observance of these operat-
ing instructions. We are not liable for
consequential damages or for dam-
ages to property or persons caused
by non-observance of the safety notes
and improper operation of the bat-
tery charger.
• The device may not be opened or
modified for safety and approval rea-
sons.
• You may only charge NiCd and NiMH
rechargeable batteries with this de-
vice. Never try to charge normal
one-way batteries or RAM cells.
There is a risk of explosion!
• Caution! Never short-circuit charge
contacts or rechargeable batteries.
• Rechargeable batteries heat up con-
siderably during the charging proce-
dure. This is not an malfunction but a
completely normal procedure.
• Only charge rechargeable batteries
suitable for the 3500 mA (Mignon) or
1500 mA (Micro) charging current.
• ALG 2500 as well as rechargeable
batteries are not a toy; keep them
out of the reach of children and
animals!
• Always place the device on an even
and non-inflammable surface.
• Only charge empty rechargeable
batteries, in order to avoid over-
charging and malfunctioning.
6. Start-up
1a. In order to use the battery charger
connect the enclosed power pack
to the power supply cable and then
to the DC input connector on the
top front side of the battery charg-
er. Now connect the power supply
cable to a power outlet.
1b. Use the enclosed car adapter
when using in a vehicle. A LED
lights up on the car adapter as
soon as the car adapter is con-
nected to the cigarette lighter. If
the LED does not light up, check
the cigarette lighter plug socket
and/or the fuse.
2. The charging pilot lights blink suc-
cessively briefly red and green
-8-
after you have connected the bat-
tery charger to the power supply.
A brief audio signal confirms the
ready status of the device.
3. Now open the dust cover and in-
sert the rechargeable batteries
(1-4 units) into the charging bays.
Irrespective of which capacity, bat-
tery type (NiMH or NiCd) or battery
size (AA or AAA) you would like to
charge. The battery charger per-
fectly charges each rechargeable
battery automatically.
4. The red "Charge control display"
indicates the high-speed charg-
ing mode. The integrated fan is
activated throughout the com-
plete charging procedure. The
device switches to trickle charging
after your rechargeable batter-
ies have been fully charged. This
is indicated by the green "Trickle
charge LED". A three-fold acous-
tic signal can be heard as soon as
a charging bay has fully charged
the inserted battery. A sevenfold
acoustic audio signal confirms that
all inserted rechargeable batteries
have been completely charged.
5. The rechargeable batteries can
remain in the device after the high-
speed charging procedure.
Always make sure that the lou-
vers are unobstructed.
The integrated fan switches itself off
automatically approx. 5 minutes af-
ter the charging procedure has been
completed. The fan cools both the
battery charger electronics and also
the inserted rechargeable batteries af-
ter the charging procedure, since both
can heat up considerably during the
charging procedure. Empty recharge-
able batteries can be charged with the
device after the cooling phase.

7. Charging times

The charging time for NiCd and NiMH
rechargeable batteries depends on
the nominal capacity. To determine the
charging time for your batteries, divide
the battery capacity by the charging
current and multiply this value by 1.4.
Example: Charging of 2600 mAH NiMH
mignon batteries AA
2600 mAH (capacity)
x 1.4 = 62 minutes
3500 mA (charging current)
The specified charging time is only
approximative. This specification can
sometimes deviate strongly.
These deviations depend e. g. on the
age of the rechargeable batteries.
The charging time values refer to
completely discharged rechargeable
batteries.
The charging time only increases in-
significantly, if the battery charger
is operated with the enclosed car
adapter.
8. Battery defect recognition
• The charging LEDs associated with
the rechargeable batteries flash al-
ternately red and green shortly af-
ter you have inserted one or more
defective rechargeable batteries
into the device. Inserted defec-
tive rechargeable batteries are not
charged.
• The functional rechargeable batter-
ies are charged normally, the de-
fective rechargeable batteries are
however not charged as described
above, if you simultaneously insert
