Hygro-/thermostat
"FOX-300JB"
Item no. 39 45 98

Intended Use

The product is used to measure and display atmospheric humidity and temperature on a built-in
display. Using two independent relays, external devices can be turned on/off when the atmos-
pheric humidity or temperature exceeds or falls below a certain adjustable value.
A built-in power unit is used to supply the power.
Use of this device in any other way than as described above is not permitted. All safety and
assembly instructions must be observed without fail!
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All names of

Package Contents

• Hygro-/thermostat
• Power cable
• Operating instructions

Safety Instructions

Read the complete operating manual carefully before using the product, as it
contains important information about the correct installation and operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The
warranty will be void in such cases!
Caution!
Opening the hygro-/thermostat and connecting the lines or loads to the screw
terminals of the two relays in the hygro-/thermostat may be performed only
by a qualifi ed electrical technician (e.g. electrician) who is familiar with the
relevant regulations (e.g. VDE)!
With improper work, you endanger not only yourself but also others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it
yourself but entrust the work to a qualifi ed electrician.
• Unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not allowed for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children! There is a
life-threatening electric shock hazard!
Install the product out of the reach of children.
• The product may be operated only on the mains voltage (see section "Technical
Data"). Never try to operate the product at another voltage, as this will cause its
destruction.
• The device is designed according to protection class I. Use the mains cable provid-
ed for the connection. Operate the product only on a conventional earthed mains
socket of the public mains supply.
The mains socket at which the mains cable is connected must be easily acces-
sible.
• The hygro-/thermostat may be installed and operated only indoors in dry rooms; it
must not get damp or wet. There is danger of fatal electric shock!
The remote sensor of the hygro-/thermostat may be installed and operated only
indoors, never outdoors or in or under water, as this destroys it.
• Do not use this product in rooms or under adverse environmental conditions where
combustible gases, vapours or dust are or may be present! There is a risk of explo-
sion!
• The product may not be exposed to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, dust
and dirt, strong vibrations or heavy mechanical stress.
• Use the whole product only when it is fi rmly and stably mounted. The device may
not be installed on vehicles.
• Disconnect the hygro-/thermostat from the mains voltage before opening the hous-
ing. Pull out the mains plug completely from the mains socket. Otherwise, there is
a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!

Installation

• First disconnect the product from the mains voltage by pulling out the mains plug from the
mains socket.
• Unscrew both screws on the right side of the housing and fold open the front cover.
• On the upper edge of the housing fl oor there are two openings, through which the hygro-/
thermostat can be mounted on a vertical wall.
Use two appropriate screws and, if necessary, suitable plugs. Pay attention when drilling and
tightening the screws that no cable or pipes are damaged.
• The hygro-/thermostat can also be screwed down at a suitable place through the two open-
ings.
• Two relays are available for control of external devices when the humidity or the temperature
value exceeds or falls below the programmed values.
Relay for the temperature:
1 NO contact
2 Common connection
3 NC contact
Relay for the atmospheric humidity:
4 NO contact
5 Common connection
6 NC contact
Never exceed the switching capacity of the relay (see "Technical Data" chapter).
• Close the housing of the hygro-/thermostat and tighten the two screws removed at the begin-
ning.
• Connect the IEC socket on the bottom of hygro-/thermostat to a proper mains socket using
the supplied earthed mains cable .
The display will light up and the atmospheric humidity and temperature measured via the
external sensor are displayed.
• The LED "OUT TEMP" or "OUT HUMI." to the left bottom of the display lights up accordingly
when the relay for temperature or humidity is activated.
• When connecting cables to the screw terminals in the hygro-/thermostat, make
sure that an appropriate strain relief mechanism and an appropriate cable bushing
is used. Without these measures, connection of cables is not permitted.
• Do not overload the relays. For the maximum switching capacity, refer to the
"Technical Data" Chapter at the end of this operating manual.
• Protect all cables from sharp edges or other damage. A damaged mains cable may
not be repaired. Replace it with a new mains cable of the same design.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, the device must be
turned off and precautions are to be taken to ensure that it is not used unintention-
ally. After this, arrange for an expert to check the product.
Safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage
- the product does not work at all or works poorly (where there is fl ickering light,
leaking smoke or a smell of burning, audible crackling noises, or discolouration
of the product or to adjacent surfaces)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer's
Liability Insurance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Facilities are
to be observed!
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our
technical service or another specialist.
Please consult the chapter "Safety Instructions".
The hygro-/thermostat is suitable for installation and operation only in a dry, en-
closed space (ambient temperature 0 °C to +50 °C, relative humidity 35% to 80%,
non-condensing).
The sensor, by contrast, is suitable for installation and operation in a enclosed
space (not outdoors, and not in or under water) at an ambient temperature of -40 °C
to +65 °C and a relative humidity of 10% to 100%.
Use suitable connection cables, cable bushings and a proper strain relief mecha-
nism for the leads. If you have no technical knowledge about this, have the connec-
tion done by a professional! There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock in the
case of incorrect approach!
