OPERATION

a) Inserting/changing the batteries
• Change the batteries when the battery symbol indicates that the battery level is low.
• Remove the battery compartment cover (4) on the bottom of the scales.
• Insert four AA batteries (the first set of batteries is included with the product) with correct
polarity into the battery compartment (observe plus/+ and minus/-). Use both hands to insert
the batteries.
• Replace the battery compartment cover. Remove the batteries when you are not going to
use the product for a prolonged period.
b) Connecting an external power adapter
Use a power adapter that conforms to the specifications in the "Technical data". A power
adapter is not included with the product.
• When you connect the low voltage plug on the power adapter to the DC input socket (7),
the batteries will be automatically cut off as the power supply.
• To operate the scales with the power adapter, connect the power adapter to a mains socket.
c) Turning on and using the scales
• Place the scales on a stable, horizontal surface.
• Open the hinged lid (6) on the scales. Press on the two cover locks (9) at the same time to
unlock the hinged lid.
• Turn on the scales by pressing the ON/MEM button (2). All symbols on the display will be
shown for approximately 5 seconds before the scales are reset to 0. If 0 is not shown on the
display, press the TARE button (11).
Once the scales have been turned on, they are ready for immediate use. However,
it is recommended that you let the scales warm up for approx. 1 minute to allow the
readings to stabilise. Continuous loads must not be placed on the weighing plate (3)
(with or without the container (5)).
• Press the CAL/MODE button (10) to set the weighing unit.
• Keep pressing the button until the desired unit is shown on the LCD display. The
corresponding symbol for the measuring unit is shown on the right of the display. This
indicates which unit was selected for weighing. The available units are grams (g), ounces
(oz), pennyweights (dwt) and troy ounces (ozt).
• Carefully place the object you wish to weigh onto the weighing plate. The weight of the
object is shown on the display. When the measured value is greater than zero, a "+" symbol
will be displayed next to the weight.
The weighing plate (3) can be turned upside down and used as a tray to weigh loose
objects.
• Press the light button (8) to turn the backlight on. Pressing it again turns the backlight off.
d) Turning the scales off
• Turn the scales off by the pressing the OFF button (1). In addition, the scales are equipped
with an automatic power off feature to prolong battery life. The scales therefore turn off
automatically after approx. 3 minutes of inactivity.
• Close the hinged lid (6) after you have finished weighing.
e) User calibration
• The scales were calibrated at the factory. However, due to the differences in gravity
between the country of manufacture and the place in which the scales are used, the
accuracy of the scales may differ slightly. To ensure that the scales are accurate, you are
recommended to calibrate the scales at regular intervals, when using for the first time, after
rapid changes in temperature and after the scales have been subjected to mechanical
loads.
• To calibrate the scales you will need a 500 g calibration weight (not included).
• Ensure that the ambient conditions (e.g. the temperature) are stable. Let the scales adjust
to the ambient temperature for approx. 2 minutes.
• Remove all objects from the weighing plate.
• Press and hold the CAL/MODE button (10) when grams are set as the unit until "500.0" g
appears on the display. This is the value of the calibration weight to be used.
• Carefully place the 500 g calibration weight onto the weighing plate. Wait for approx. 4
seconds. "F" appears on the LCD display. This indicates that the calibration was successful.
When "E" appears on the display, this indicates that the calibration failed. Press the OFF
button (1) to remove "E" from the display. Repeat the steps described above to start
another calibration attempt.
• To end the calibration process, remove the calibration weight from the scales and briefly
press the OFF button to revert to the normal display.
f) Tare function
• The tare function is designed to reset the scales to zero when using a measuring container.
This function is designed to measure non-solid substances such as liquids and powder.
The tare function offsets the weight of the measuring container so that only the net weight
is shown on the display. It calculates the weight of an extra measuring container so that the
display only shows the net weight of the measured object.
• Turn on the scales and place an empty measuring container (e.g. container included with
the scales, measuring cup etc.) onto the weighing plate. Wait until the display stabilises.
• Press the TARE button (11). The weight display shows "0.0", even though there is a
measuring container on the weighing plate. A negative value is displayed when the
measuring container is removed.
• Place the object you wish to weigh into the measuring container. The weight display shows
the net weight of the measured object in the selected unit.
• If you wish to weigh objects without the measuring container, remove the container from
the weighing plate. The weight will be negative when the entire weight is removed from the
scales. Press the TARE button.
Please note that the weighing capacity of the scales includes the measuring container.
It is therefore advisable to use the measuring container provided or another measuring
container that is as light as possible.
g) Counting function
This function can be used to count small objects of approximately the same weight.
• Turn on the scales using the ON/MEM button (2).
• Choose the sample size by pressing the CAL/MODE button (10) until the desired value is
displayed. The options appear in the following order: g, oz, dwt, ozt, rEF 5, rEF 10, rEF 20,
rEF 50. The number after rEF (reference quantity) is the sample size. The larger the sample
size, the greater the accuracy of the counting function.
• Place the same number of objects (each of the same weight) as the selected sample size
onto the weighing plate. Let the scales stabilise for approx. 5 seconds.
When using an extra measuring container, set the scales to zero in advance using the
tare function.
• Press the TARE button (11). "C" and "+" appear on the left of the display. The counting
function is now active and ready for use. Remove the sample from the scales.
• Now place the objects that you wish to count onto the weighing plate. After the calculation is
complete, the corresponding quantity will be shown on the display.
• To turn off the counting function, keep pressing the CAL/MODE button until the normal
weight display with a weight unit appears. "C" disappears from the display.
h) Memory function
The measured values from individual weight measurements can be added to the internal
memory and displayed on demand.
• Carefully place the object that you wish to weigh onto the weighing surface when the
display is at zero. The weight of the object is shown on the display.
• Press the ON/MEM button (2) to save the measured value. "0.0" and "M" are displayed
together. Place another object onto the scales; its weight will be displayed. Press the ON/
MEM button (2) again. "M" disappears from the display and the total weight of the objects
is shown.
• Repeat these steps in the same order to calculate the total weight without the need to
remove all of the previous measured objects from the scales. All measured values will be
added to the memory.
Ensure that the scales are not overloaded beyond the maximum capacity!
i) Automatic power off feature
• To conserve power, the scales switch off automatically after approx. 3 minutes of inactivity.
j) Overload indicator
• "o-Ld" is displayed if the scales are overloaded. Remove the load immediately, as the
scales will not be covered by the warranty in the event of any permanent damage. The
warranty will be voided if the scales are overloaded or opened!

TROUBLESHOOTING AND ERROR MESSAGES

Problem/error message
The scales no longer weigh
accurately. The battery symbol is
displayed.
o-Ld
Cause/solution
The battery voltage is so low that the scales
no longer work properly. Start by replacing the
batteries.
Bring the scales into a room with stable ambient
conditions and let the scales adjust to the
surroundings (approx. 2 mins).
The measured object exceeds the measuring
range. Remove the measured object from the
scales immediately.
