Tip: Use a miniature alkaline battery in order to obtain maxi-
mum battery service life.
• Take off the battery compartment cover by gently pressing the
tab on the cover in the direction shown by the arrow and then
pull the battery compartment cover upwards.
• Fit a 1.5 V miniature battery into the battery compartment,
making sure polarity is correct, see marking inside the battery
compartment.
See fold-out page for Illustration 5.
• After inserting the battery, close the battery compartment
cover.
Warning! Batteries must be handled as toxic waste and kept
separate from domestic refuse.
Old batteries should be disposed of properly in special
containers provided by specialist electrical retailers.
Warning!
• Change the battery at least once a year.
• Only remove the battery after the power supply unit has been
unplugged.
• Remove the battery from the appliance if it is not to be used
for a relatively long period.
• When the battery is flat or after the battery has been re-
moved, the clock loses its time information and the alarm time
setting.

7.2. Connecting the Power Supply Unit

Warning!
Always fit the battery before connecting the power supply unit
to the appliance.
Plug the low-voltage connector of the power supply unit into the
clock's low-voltage socket (5).
Fit the plug of the power supply unit into a 230 V AC mains
socket outlet.

8. Setting/Synchronising the Time

Once the battery has been fitted and the power supply unit has
been plugged in, the clock automatically starts to receive the DCF
signal.
For reception security reasons, the clock's LED display is switch-
ed off during all synchronisation processes.
The DCF LED remains lit until clock synchronisation has been
completed. Depending on reception conditions, synchronisation
may take 2 to 10 minutes.
Once the appliance has been successfully synchronised, the DCF
LED goes out and the correct time of day is shown on the clock
display.
After initial use, synchronisation takes place roughly once an
hour and this process is repeated 16 times. At this time the inter-
nal crystal oscillator of the clock is adjusted in order to obtain
the highest possible time-keeping accuracy even without the
DCF signal, ie. the clock switches off its display during the syn-
chronisation period (approx. 1 minute) once an hour during the
first 16 hours of operation.
