• Never plug in the appliance (power supply unit/clock) imme-
diately after it has been moved from a cold into a warm room.
The condensation created may destroy your appliance. Leave
the appliance unplugged until it has reached room tempera-
ture and wait until the condensation evaporates.
• Ensure correct polarity when fitting the battery.
• After removal, dispose of the battery in an environmentally-
friendly way.
• Do not leave batteries lying around as there is a risk of them
being swallowed by children or pets. Immediately call a doctor
if a battery is swallowed.
• Leaking or damaged batteries can cause skin burns and suit-
able protective gloves should therefore be worn when han-
dling them.
• Make sure that the battery is not short-circuited or recharged.
• Do not place the appliance on an unstable surface, it could
injure persons if it falls.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. Plas-
tic film/bags, expanded polystyrene parts etc. can be hazar-
dous to children if they play with them.
• Contact a skilled technician if you have any doubts concerning
the operating principle, safety or correct connection of the
appliance.
• Opening covers or removing parts can lead to live parts being
exposed, unless this can be performed manually. Connection
points can also be live. Before being balanced, serviced or
repaired or having any parts or componentry replaced, if the
appliance must be opened, it must first be isolated from any
source of voltage. If, subsequently, it is absolutely necessary to
balance, service or repair the open appliance while live, this
should only be carried out by a qualified technician familiar
with the risks involved and the relevant regulations.

5. What is DCF?

The DCF signal is an encoded radio signal which contains time-
keeping information from the PTB's caesium clock in Braunschweig.
This caesium clock is so accurate that, theoretically, it only gains
or loses 1 second every million years.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted by a DCF transmitter
at Mainflingen near Frankfurt. This transmitter has a range of
roughly 1,500 km and clocks within this transmission range that
have a built-in DCF receiver can receive and decode the DCF sig-
nal. With DCF clocks, there is no need to set the time manually,
eg. when clocks are put forward to summertime.
