External Dust Extraction (see figure E)
You can use the supplied extraction adapter 22 to connect
other brands of dust class M vacuum cleaner (e.g. Bosch, Fes-
tool, Flex or Kärcher) to the vacuum hose 19.
– Insert the vacuum hose 19 into the vacuum connection 8
until both snap-fasteners 20 of the vacuum hose engage.
– Connect the extraction adapter 22 to the vacuum hose of a
suitable vacuum cleaner. To secure the connection, tight-
en the Velcro strap 21.
Please observe the following notes in order to reduce the dust
emissions occurring while working.
– Use only Bosch-recommended combinations of applica-
tion tool, handpiece with mounted guard and extraction
hood, and dust class M vacuum cleaner. Other combina-
tions may lead to worse collection and separation of dust.
– Observe the operating instructions of the vacuum cleaner
for maintenance and cleaning of the vacuum cleaner, in-
cluding the filter. Empty dust collection containers imme-
diately once full. Clean the filters of the vacuum cleaner
regularly and always insert the filters completely into the
vacuum cleaner.
– Use the handpiece only in accordance with its intended
use.
– Observe the general requirements for construction sites.
– Ensure that the work area is clear. When working for ex-
tended periods of time, the vacuum cleaner must be able
to move along freely or at the right time.
– Use a suitable vacuum cleaner for cleaning the workplace.
Prevent settled dust from being swirled up by sweeping.
Adjusting the Auxiliary Handle (see figure F)
The tilt of the auxiliary handle 4 can be adjusted in order to en-
able the guiding hand to be held in a more comfortable posi-
tion during certain applications (e.g. when sanding close to
edges).
– Loosen both wing bolts 9 and tilt the auxiliary handle 4 into
the desired work position.
– Retighten the wing bolts 9.
Operation

Starting Operation

 Observe correct mains voltage! The voltage of the pow-
er source must agree with the voltage specified on the
nameplate of the machine. Power tools marked with
230 V can also be operated with 220 V.
Starting and Stopping (see figure G)
To save energy, only switch the power tool on when using it.
– To start the machine, push the On/Off switch 5 forwards.
To lock the On/Off switch 5, press the On/Off switch 5
down at the front until it latches.
 Check sanding tools before using. The sanding tool
must be mounted properly and be able to move freely.
Carry out a test run for at least one minute with no load.
Do not use damaged, out-of-centre or vibrating sand-
ing tools. Damaged sanding tools can burst and cause in-
juries.
Bosch Power Tools
– To switch off the power tool, release the On/Off switch 5,
or when it is locked, briefly press the On/Off switch 5 and
then release it.
Adjusting the Speed
The required speed can be preselected with the thumbwheel
7 (also while running).
The required speed depends on the material and the working
conditions and can be determined through practical testing.
An overview of the right choice of application tool for an appli-
cation together with a speed recommendation can be found in
section "Selection of the Application Tool and Speed Setting",
page 28.
Reduced starting current
The electronic reduced starting current limits the power con-
sumption when switching the tool on and enables operation
from a 13 ampere fuse.
Note: When the machine runs with full speed after switching
on, the reduced starting current, the restarting protection
and the kickback stop features have failed. The power tool
must promptly be sent to an after-sales service agent for
maintenance. For addresses, see Section „After-sales Service
and Application Service".
Constant Electronic Control
Constant electronic control holds the speed constant at no-
load and under load, and ensures uniform working perfor-
mance.
Restarting Protection
The restarting protection feature prevents uncontrolled re-
starting of the machine after an interruption in the power sup-
ply.
– To restart the operation, switch the On/Off switch 5 to
the Off position and start the machine again.
Overload Protection
When overloaded, the motor comes to a stop. Relieve the load
on the machine immediately and allow to cool down for ap-
prox. 30 seconds at the highest no-load speed.
