This manual is intended for the machine operator.
Keep it in a safe place!
The breaking saws may only be operated:
In a technically safe condition, for its intended
use and in accordance with the applicable safety
and accident prevention regulations
With all the safety devices attached
In accordance with the safety precautions
When the operating personnel has read and
understood this manual, in particular Chapter 2
"Safety precautions" (p. 13) and Chapter 3
"Commissioning and operational safety" (p. 14)
Only in this way can incorrect operation be avoided
and hazard situations correctly assessed.
Never reach into the area of the
saw blade to avoid the risk of
cutting off limbs!
Wear eye protection or safety
goggles when working with the
breaking saw!

1.1 Symbols in this Manual

Hazard symbol:
The greatest care and attention must
be taken here. Lack of attention can
result in an immediate risk of injury for
the operating personnel or third par-
ties. Furthermore, the machine may be
damaged.
Information symbol:
Texts marked with this symbol con-
tain important information and
useful tips.

1.2 Intended Use

1.2.1 Field of use
The breaking saws are designed for medium and
heavy-duty breaking operations in medium-sized
and large slaughterhouses.
EFA 85 / EFA 185 for breaking and quartering of
beef halves in suspended position.
Schmid & Wezel
D 75433 Maulbronn
EFA 86 / EFA 186 for breaking of pork halves in
suspended and horizontal position; can be em-
ployed on breaking lines or tables.
The machines are not equipped for any other form
of use. Should the operator wish to use the saw in
some other way, please consult Schmid & Wezel
GmbH & Co. (S&W) beforehand.
Use in any other way may result in a risk of acci-
dents and increased wear to the breaking saw. The
user alone bears the liability for the consequences
of any other form of use.
1.2.2 Residual risks
The breaking saw is designed for industrial use on
animal carcasses. Risk of injury! Serious misuse can
result in fatal accidents, i.e. if improperly used, the
saw may result in direct death or death by bleeding.
Be sure therefore to always use the machine in the
proper manner.

found in Annex A.6 "Liste der Ersatz- und Versch-

2. Safety precautions

2.1 General safety precautions

Be sure to following the safety precautions
below when using the breaking saws.
Changing the saw blade as well as installation,
maintenance and repair work may only be car-
ried out when the machine is disconnected from
the mains supply!
Select personal protection equipment according
to the regulations applicable on the premises
and to the accident prevention regulations in
force.
It is assumed that the operating personnel is
sufficiently familiar with the use of breaking
saws.
Instruction is provided by our specialist person-
nel.
