operation, all four DIP-switches
should be set to OFF.
Sound
This model features a digital elec-
tronic sound system. All of the
sounds are actual recordings. The
sounds were converted from ana-
log to digital and then stored as
data. When you operate your
loco, the data is converted back
into sounds.
The sound system can be swit-
ched on and off using the power
control switch (see Operating
Modes). The volume control is
located under the tool box.
Bell and whistle: A short blast of
the whistle sounds automatically
when the locomotive is started or
stopped.
The bell and whistle (long blast for
crossings) can be triggered by the
LGB Sound Magnet (17050)
included with this model. The
17050 snaps between the ties of
most LGB track sections.
The magnet in the 17050 is
mounted under the LGB logo mol-
ded into the case. If the contact is
installed with the logo on one side
of the track, it will trigger the
whistle as the model passes. If
the contact is installed with the
logo on the other side, it will trig-
ger the bell.
Brake: The „squealing" brake
sound can be triggered using the
function button of the Multi-Train
System
(see
System).
Coal shoveling: This unique
sound can be triggered using the
function button of the Multi-Train
System
(see
System).
Standing sounds: Approximate-
ly five seconds after the model
stops, the air pump sounds eight
times quickly. After a short pause,
the air pump again sounds eight
times quickly. After another short
pause, the steam blow-off will
sound. The boiler leakage sounds
fade until the electronic sound
turns off.
If a low voltage (approx. 6 volts) is
maintained in the track, the stan-
ding sounds will continue to
sound at regular intervals.
Hint: If the model is not used for
a long period of time, the internal
Multi-Train
Multi-Train
power capacitors will discharge,
and the sound system will opera-
te erratically. To recharge the
capacitors, operate the model at
brisk speed for about 30 seconds.
This model does not require a
battery.
Attention! This model, like all lar-
ger sound locos, is equipped with
a starting delay circuit. This
makes it possible for the loco to
produce standing sounds while it
is stopped. Avoid connecting this
model with other locos with diffe-
rent starting characteristics. This
can damage the internal gearing.
Lighting
This model has automatic direc-
tional lanterns on the front and
the rear of the loco. The cab is
also illuminated. A 5-volt voltage
stabilization circuit provides con-
stant power to the lights, even
when the loco is moving slowly.
This model has a „flat" multi-pur-
pose socket, with a removable
cover, on the rear of the loco. This
socket can be used to provide
track power to cars with lighting
and sound electronics. To remove
the cover of the socket, pull it
straight out. If the cover is tight,
gently use a small tool, like a
small straight screwdriver, to pry it
out. (Do not pull out the rectangu-
lar outer housing.)
If your cars have the older,
„round" lighting connectors, use
the Light Socket Adapter (68334).
Smoke Generator
This model has a smoke genera-
tor in the smokestack. A small
supply of LGB Smoke and Clea-
ning Fluid is also included with
this model. For best operation, fill
the generator halfway with fluid. If
the generator is overfilled, it will
not convert the fluid into smoke.
Attention! Only use LGB Smoke
and Cleaning Fluid (50010) in the
smoke generator. Other fluids
may damage your locomotive.
Attention! Never touch the hea-
ting element in the center of the
smoke generator. It is fragile.
Power Supply
Attention! For safety and reliabi-
lity, operate this model with LGB
power supplies (transformers,
power packs and controls) only.
