User instruction
How should I use and care for my hearing
protector?
All hearing protectors covered by this instruction
sheet have headbands or helmet mounts made
of thermal plastic and sealing rings filled with
foamed plastic.
Carefully read these user instructions to attain the
greatest possible benefits from your engelbert
strauss product.
For optimal comfort and protection from this hear-
ing protector, you must use, maintain and adjust
the protector according to the following instruc-
tions.
– Earmuffs and special sealing rings wear and you
should regularly check that no parts are worn out
or that the protector has cracks or leakage.
– Use of perspiration/hygienic protection over the
sealing rings can reduce the hearing protector's
noise attenuation properties.
– Certain chemical substances can have a de-
structive effect on this product. More information
is available from the manufacturer.
Adjustment and usage
The hearing protector's noise attenuating prop-
erties can dramatically decrease with usage of
for example, thick eyeglass frames, ski masks/
balaclavas, etc. Remove all hair from beneath the
sealing ring and place the earmuffs over the ears
so that they fit comfortably and snugly. Ensure that
the ears are completely enclosed by the earmuffs
and that you have even pressure around the ears.
Headband (See Figure 1)
Adjust the protector to its largest size and put it on
your head. Adjust the band so that the protector
rests lightly against the crown of your head.
Care
Clean with mild detergent (soap). You must be
sure that the detergent you use does not irritate
the skin. The hearing protector must be stored dry
and clean, such as in its original packaging for ex-
ample. Do not dip the product in water!

Warning
If the instructions above are not followed, the
noise attenuation can drastically decrease.
The hearing protector must always be used in
noisy environments to provide full protection! Only
100% wear time provides full protection.
Tested and approved according to:
– PPE directive 89/686 EEC
– EN 352-1 (Headband/Neckband)
– EN 352-6 (External audio input)
– EN 352-8 (Radio)
Radio (see Figure 2a)
The hearing protector features level-limiting
of audio signals from the speakers to maximum
82 dB(A) at the ear.
Listening to the radio can entail degraded audibil-
ity of warning signals at the workplace.
On/Off Volume
– Turn the dial marked "a" to switch on the ra-
dio. Continue turning clockwise to increase the
volume.
– In the event of poor reception conditions, the
radio automatically switches from stereo to mono
mode to maintain optimal audio quality.
Frequency/channel selector (see Figure 2b)
– Turn the dial marked "b" to choose radio stations.
– The radio's frequency range is FM 88-108 MHz,
AM 540-1700 KHz ("c")
External audio input (see Figure 3)
The hearing protector is equipped with an
electronic audio input. Check that the function is
operable before using the unit. If interference or
faults occur, consult the manufacturer's instruc-
tions.
– Warning! Connection of an external audio source
can entail a sound level that exceeds the daily
permitted exposure.
– Maximum permitted audio signal: 263mV
– You can connect a communications radio,
MP3 player, mobile phone or other external audio
source to the 3.5 mm audio input.
– The volume function must be turned on when
using the external audio input.
Batteries (see Figure 4)
– The unit is supplied with two 1.5 V AA batteries.
– Use only 1.5 V AA NiMH batteries.
– Ensure that the batteries' plus and minus poles
are correctly oriented.
– Never change the batteries when the elec t ronics

– Warning! Performance can decrease as the
batteries discharge. During normal use, the
estimated battery life is about 130 hours.
