6.0 Commissioning

Prior to commissioning, carefully read the instruction manual.

6.1 Earth Resistance Measurement (two-wire method)

Resistance measurement by using the two-wire method is used to measure, e.g. the
resistance between an available, known and good ground connection and a newly instal-
led ground.
Measurements in dangerous proximity to electrical systems should only be carried out
in conjunction with clear instructions from a responsible electrical specialist and must
not be carried out alone.
To avoid error measurement, no metalic piping or cables should be installed in
parallel to the measurement layout.
4 Insert earth rod/probe into ground
4
Connect probe and auxiliary
ground to sockets (H) + (E), as
described in figure 6.1 by using
a clamp to the earth rod or to a
known, good ground.
4 Turn the rotary switch to the "2
pole" position.
4 Set contact voltage (11).
4
Automatic (16) or manual (12)
frequency selection.
4 Press key "Start" (14).
Also refer to display indications in chapter 7.0
After the measurement, selection can be made between display in R or Im by using
the measurement variable indication key (8), depending on the measurement result.
Possibility to measure conventional resistance by using the grounding resistance
measurement range. For this purpose, connect lines E and H to the EUT. Test current
is fed via lines E and H, measurement voltage is measured via E and H.

6.2 Earth Resistance Measurement (three-wire method)

(only possible with the accessory set, order number: 1048!)
Measurements in dangerous proximity to electrical systems should only be carried
out in conjunction with clear instructions from a responsible electrical specialist and
must not be carried out alone.
The earth measurements instrument functions in accordance with the current-voltage
measurement principle. The so-called three-wire procedure is used, determining the gro-
unding resistance by using three wires. A constant current is fed into the earth via outputs
