Dräger VarioGard Central Unit - Assembly Instructions
Precise knowledge of the Instructions for Use of the Dräger VarioGard, and strict
adherence thereto, are required for all work on or with the central unit.
Installing the VarioGard central unit
The VarioGard central unit may only be installed by duly trained specialist personnel.
Position the central unit in a clearly visibly, easily accessible place.
To install the central unit:
1. Remove strips from upper part (not fitted before delivery).
2. Undo the four screws on the upper part and remove the upper part (not fitted be-
fore delivery).
3. Remove insulating plate.
4. Fit additional cable entries (optional accessories) if required for electrical instal-
lation.
The unit is secured with four screws (4 mm) inserted through the housing –
Drilling template: see pale grey shaded area in the background of this page.
Before finally fitting the upper part, refit insulating plate 3 to ensure electrical safety!
Electrical installation
The internal power supply of a central unit can only generate limited electrical power
via the system bus. The power requirements of all installed slaves can be determi-
ned as a busload as follows: The maxim system bus length is derived from the vol-
tage drop across the cables used.

Gard system bus
(i.e. maximum of 2 + 4 x 1.5 = 8 busloads)
The total of all the busloads must not exceed 32 without an additional power supply.
The maximum total cable lengths, depending on the total planned busloads, are
shown below:

The maximum length of the system bus cable is determined by the total length of the
slave cables
(e. g. L1 + L2 + L3 + L4 + L5).
