7. Installing a SATA Hard Disc

Before opening the digital recorder and installing the hard disc, the digital recorder must be disconnected
from the power supply; pull the mains adapter from the mains socket.
Remove the housing lid of the digital recorder by turning out the holding screws (one screw each on the left and right,
and 2 screws on the rear).
A 8.89 cm-/3.5"-SATA hard disc is suitable for installation (not enclosed). For surveillance use, you need to use a hard
disc that can be used in permanent operation. These are typically more expensive than "normal" hard discs.
Some hard disc manufactures also offer hard discs that have been constructed specifically for use in surveillance
systems.
Do not use conventional desktop hard discs in the digital recorder, since they will age more quickly in
permanent use and writing/reading errors may occur.
Also make sure that the hard disc you use does not develop too much heat, since the digital recorder has
no integrated fan.
Attach the hard disc to the intended mounting holes in the digital recorder with 4 screws.
Connect the power cable and the SATA cable between the hard disc and the control PCB of the digital recorder.
Re-attach the housing lid of the digital recorder and attach it with the screws removed at first.

8. Choose the Site of Setup for the Digital Recorder

Select a suitable place of setup. It should be located so that the digital recorder is protected from unauthorised access.
Only put up the digital recorder on a level, horizontal and stable surface. Protect expensive furniture surfaces from
impressions or scratches with suitable pads.
Protect the digital recorder from direct sunlight and heat. The digital recorder and the installed hard disc are cooled by
air convention; never cover the digital recorder and put no other devices or objects on top of it.
If the digital recorder is installed in a cabinet, for example, a suitable cooling is required to prevent heat accumulation.
Ensure that the digital recorder is not exposed to any vibrations or shocks in operation, since this would
damage the installed hard disc. This will cause all recordings to be lost.
