FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE

This appliance converts continuous current generated in solar cells into
alternative current, which is synchronously fed into the electrical network
of your house. There, mainly your own consumers are supplied with
energy. In case you consume little energy at a particular moment, the
excess energy is fed into the electric distribution network of your utility
company. So it will not get lost and can be used by other electricity
customers.
This appliance operates fully automatically. As soon as in the morning
the solar modules generate enough power, the electronic control unit
starts monitoring network voltage and frequency as well as energy
supply. With sufficient insolation the appliance starts feeding energy,
and ,depending on the type of inverter used, only about 10 - 15 W of solar
power are sufficient already!
The inverter continues to work in a way to draw the maximum power out
of the solar generators (MPPT - „Maximum power point tracking"). As
soon as at dusk the energy supply is no more sufficient for feeding
current into the network, the inverter automatically cuts the connection
and stops operation.
Fig.2
Functional Principle of Inverter
As the electronic control unit is powered by the solar modules, the
appliance is fully out of operation during the night and therefore consu-
mes no energy at all.
The Sunrise Inverters are designed for use with solar generators with a
wide range of input voltages. Therefore a large variety of modules of
either non-crystalline or crystalline type can be used.
For the characteristic data of the inverters, see Table 1. Ensure that the
maximum input voltage as indicated is never exceeded!
Note! If there is a danger of overheating of the inverter when operated
at full load, the inverter will derate output power to preclude thermal
overload and resulting damages.
Note! Given the insolation in Central Europe, we recommend that you
choose a solar generator with a maximum power that is by up to 30 %
higher than the rated power of the inverter. In case of unfavourable
positioning, the difference may even be as much as 50 %. By doing so,
you ensure a better energy yield.

PERSONAL PROTECTION

The SUNRISE inverter line is designed and built to offer maximum safety
during assembly and operation.
These machines are equipped with a ring core transformer to ensure that
the DC side is decoupled from the mains current. As soon as an
operational value is not in conformity with the permissible variation, the
inverter immediately interrupts feeding current into the network.
Normal conditions are defined as follows:
- Power supply: 230V +10/-15%
- Power frequency: 50 Hz +/- 0.2 Hz
- Input voltage: > 125 V (mini-S > 50 V)
As the impedance of the electric network is monitored via ENS - the
safest state-of-the art method for determination of abnormal network
conditions -, islanding operation is excluded even under extremely
unfavourable conditions. So in case of power failure (cut of supply by
utility company or line damages), the inverter immediately interrupts
operation which precludes dangerous voltage at the lines and thus
eliminates any danger for the service personnel.
For PV installations with special safety considerations (schools,
public buildings) the Sunrise mini-S is the best choice. It is desi-
gned for DC input voltages < 120V (SEL V: safety extra-low voltage)
which eliminates the danger of personel injury.

THE SAFETY CONCEPT

The Sunrise inverter meets all applicable standards, rules and regulati-
ons.
In particular, the following regulations are met:
- "Technical Guidelines for Parallel Operation of Individual Photovol-
taic Generation Units and the Low Voltage Network Provided by a
Utility Company", issued by the Verband der E-Werke Österreichs
(Association of Austrian Utility Companies).
- „ Guideline for Parallel Operation of Individual Photovoltaic Genera-
tion Units and the Low Voltage Network Provided by a Utility
Company", issued by the Vereinigung Deutscher Elektrizitätswerke
(VDEW, Association of German Utility Companies)
- "Safety Requirements for Photovoltaic Energy Generation Units"
(ÖNORM/ÖVE E2750), as far as these regulations refer to inverters
- Directive 89/336/EWG Electromagnetic Compatibility
- Directive 93/68/EWG CE Marking
- European Standards EN 55 014 , EN 50 082-1
For the respective Declarations of Conformity, please refer to the annex
to this operating manual.
Note! In case your utility company announces any work on the supply
network or a cut of supply, we recommend that you disconnect the
inverter from the network until the work has been finished (by opening
LS-switch). This is to preclude any damages caused by uncontrolled
switching operations that might occur.
