4. The Remote Control Unit
4.1 Explanation of keys

5.2 Connection via a EURO-AV cable
TV set
Connect the EURO-AV socket of your TV set via a EURO-AV cable (not supplied) with the
TV socket of the receiver.
Only when using the TV socket of the receiver, the on-screen displays (menus) will appear
when they are called up.
Video recorder
Connect the EURO-AV socket of your video recorder via a EURO-AV cable (not supplied)
with the VCR socket of the receiver.
No on-screen displays are output via the VCR socket of the receiver. That is why video
recordings cannot be affected by calling up menus.
Note:
When playing back video recordings, the signals from the video recorder (VCR socket) are
looped through the satellite receiver (also in stand-by) to the TV set (TV socket).
Decoder
When connecting a decoder (connect via a EURO-AV cable to the DEC socket), check the
decoder norm selection in the system setup menu (»
each programme position concerned in the programme position setup menu (»
Second video recorder or decoder
If you wish to connect a second video recorder instead of the decoder, use the DEC socket
for this.
5.3 Adjusting the SAT aerial
Select the AV programme position on the TV set.
If the aerial is correctly installed and directed at the desired satellite, the receiver will work at
once. If the aerial is not yet directed at the satellite, you can do this easily yourself.
The aerial mast must be grounded according to the EN 60065 standard.
Example:
For receiving the Astra satellite in France, you must adjust an elevation angle of the aerial
between 30° (in the north) and 38° (in the south) (use the scale on the aerial). For example,
in Paris you must adjust an angle of 38°.
Select programme position 1 on the SAT receiver.
Direct the aerial to the south then slowly turn it to the east until the programme is visible on
the picture screen. Slowly correct the elevation and azimuth angles until the optimum pictu-
re quality is obtained and then tighten all nuts

4.2 Inserting or replacing batteries
Insert the batteries (type AA) supplied into the remote control unit. Observe correct polarity!
It is absolutely necessary to replace exhausted batteries. We can assume no liability for
damage due to a leaking battery.
Note:
The batteries supplied are free of heavy metals such as mercury or nickel-cadmium.
Do not dispose of the used battery as domestic waste. Please be aware of local laws and
regulations concerning used batteries.

After connecting the receiver to the mains supply it is in stand-by. The red indicator is lit.
5.1 How to connect the satellite aerial
It is absolutely necessary to respect the safety and installation notes on page 2.
Connect the cable of your satellite aerial to the LNC input (screw terminal) on the back of
your receiver.
Note:
Check to see whether the preset LNC oscillator frequency (see pages 13 and 14) corre-
sponds to the LNC used.
5.4 How to connect your hifi system
The STR 1300 delivers also excellent radio signals in stereo and mono. Many radio pro-
grammes of the Astra and Eutelsat satellites are pre-programmed.
Note:
Best sound quality is obtained when connecting the receiver to hifi equipment.
The connection to the hifi equipment is made via a free EURO-AVsocket using an "EURO-
AV – Cinch" adapter cable which is available from a specialized dealer.
6. Explanation of the Station Table

group and marked by a number (e.g. 1 Astra).

7. Mulit-Satellite Reception
7.1 General
With a universal LNC, the 22 kHz signal switches between the low and high frequency
band of a satellite.With the Astra satellite, the high frequency band is only used for digital
reception.
Notes:
In the "Programme position setup" menu you can select for every programme position
whether the (static) 22 kHz signal is switched off ("–" setting) or switched on ("
The presetting supports both aerial systems with 22 kHz switch ("–/~" settings) or with
ToneBurst switch ("A/B" settings).
If you should require a different LNC selection setting for multi-satellite reception, you must
correct the LNC selection setting for all programme positions concerned (see section
" Polarization and switching signal" on page 16).
