Determining the position of the vertical elevating roof on the vehicle
You need a surface with a length of 1670 mm to 1700 mm and a width of 1300 mm, depending on how high the
roof frame needs to be stencilled.
The dimension for the roof cut-out is 970 mm in length and 1040 mm in width (see Abb. 3-1)
The roof cut-out is approx. 400 - 430 mm in the centre behind the front of the frame and approx. 290 - 300 mm
in front of the end of the frame, depending on how high the roof frame needs to be stencilled.
Check the space on the roof of the vehicle to see if there is an area of this size.
The spoiler can protrude forwards into the downward curved roof above the driver's cab.
The frame can protrude a little over the vehicle roof into the side wall.
You have about 50 mm they can remove on the frame and spoiler to fit the roof structure.
Take into account the cable routing and especially the roof struts in the interior, these may only be changed
within the framework of the manufacturer's bodywork guidelines for bodybuilders.
Check which roof components can be removed or moved and which cannot.
Vehicle preparation
The vehicle roof must be clean or cleaned before the start of work.
Cover the vehicle from its upper section of the windows outside, so that no metal filings can damage the varnish.
Remove roof rail and other components in the area of the elevating roof.
At vehicles with an original sidewall cladding all parts above the window must be removed.
Dismounting the vehicle's roof, covering the floor, the seats and the dashboard.
Extract the cable from the cut-out section.
Roof cut-out
Mark the determined position of the roof cut-out on the vehicle roof, similar to the drawing (see Abb. 3-1)
Attention: Wear the safety goggles and the work gloves. While cutting out, pay attention to the cables.
Put one 10 mm boring at each corner for the dip in of the jig saw and as radius measure. No corners may arise.
Saw out the sheet metal roof along the marked line. The easiest way to do that is to start by sawing from the
corners to the middle and afterwards lengthwise. If the corner has been sawed, support the sawed sheet metal
by battens.
Raise the complete sawed metal sheet roof from the vehicle in twos.
Deburr the cutting edges with a file and handle it with corrosion protective material or Sika primer.
