Connection
Connect the universal dimmer as shown
in the figure below.
Recommended cable-type for efficient
stress-relief: H 05 VV-F 3X 1,5
Installation instructions
• The distance from electrical appliances
(e.g. microwave oven, hi-fi and TV sets)
must be at least 0.5 m.
• To prevent saturation of the radio
receiver (actuator), the universal
dimmer must be at least 1 m away
from the nearest transmitter.
• Observe the technical connection
conditions of the power supply
companies. Centralized telecontrol
signals of the power stations may be
noticed as short-time flickering of the
lamp at low dimming positions.
Automatic Load Detection
After the first installation and after
disconnection from the mains, the
universal dimmer detects the load
automatically.
Attention:
Do not connect capacitive loads (e.g.
Jung Tronic transformers) and induc-
tive loads (e.g. conventional trans-
formers) together to the universal
dimmer.
With resistive loads (incandescent and
high-voltage halogen lamps), the load
detection cycle is characterized by short
flickering of the lamps. Depending on
mains conditions, the detection may take
between 1 second and 10 seconds.
During this time, operation is not possible.
In the event of a short-circuit during the
detection phase, the load must be
redetected after elimination of the short-
circuit.
A mains failure of longer than 0.7 seconds
causes the universal dimmer to switch
off.
Short-circuit protection
Phase cut-off operation
(capacitive load, resistive load)
The device shuts off and restarts auto-
matically if the short-circuit condition is
removed within 7 seconds. Otherwise,
the universal dimmer remains perma-
nently off until it is switched on again
manually.
Phase cut-on operation
(inductive load)
The device shuts off and restarts auto-
matically if the short-circuit condition is
removed within 100 ms. Otherwise, the
universal dimmer remains permanently
off until it is switched on again manually.
Over-temperature protection
The universal dimmer is shut off auto-
matically when the ambient temperature
is too high. After cooling down, the device
must be switched on again.
