4. Donning/Use Procedure

• It is recommended that prior to use of MICROGARD
PAPR suits full training is given on the safe use and limitations by a
competent person, with details of the training recorded.
• For safety purposes and to ensure proper closure it is suggested
to have an assistant ("buddy") to help with the donning and doffing
of the suit.
Follow these steps to connect the fan unit and filters to the suit:
(Refer to page 8-9 for illustrations)
• Having visually inspected the suit for any defects, remove your shoes
(model 700 only) & empty your pockets of any items that could hinder
you or damage the protective clothing. Shake the garment out (this
makes it easier to put on having been flat packed)
• Fully open the zippers on the suit
• Remove the PAPR fan unit, filters and hose carefully from their packaging
• Thread the end of the hose without the O-ring (Fig A) through the self
fabric loops on the rear of the suit and the opening in the neck seal.
Insert the hose into the holder and clamp in place using the locknut
(Fig B & B2)
• Place the fan unit the correct way up inside the suit and align the filter
threads with the openings in the rear of the suit Fig C & D
• With the suit and fan unit (inside) laid on a flat surface, align the filters
with opening in the suit and fan unit thread. Attach the desired filters

by applying light pressure and turning clockwise until tight. Be careful
not to over-tighten or you may damage the fan unit threads. (Fig E)
• Connect the hose to the fan unit, ensuring the hose is not twisted (Fig F)
Donning the suit & fan unit
• Carefully don up to your waist, ensuring your feet are positioned

correctly in the socks by pushing your toes to the end.
• Follow the PAPR manufacturer instructions to position the waist belt
comfortably and fasten firmly. Turn on the fan unit
• With the help of your dressing assistant, lift the suit up onto the
shoulders and place your arms into the sleeves (Fig G)
• Pull the hood of the suit over your head (make sure the fan unit is
switched on!)
• The dressing assistant should close the inner and outer zips (Fig H),
remove the double sided tape and seal down the storm flap (Fig I ). If
necessary and for full liquid & particle protection the assistant should
apply additional adhesive tape over the edges of the flap. The hood and
suit body will now fully inflate.
• Don your gloves, placing the outer gloves over the outer sleeve of the
coverall and ask your assistant to seal the cuff to the coverall with self
adhesive waterproof tape.
5. Doffing the suit & fan unit
• Leave the hazardous area before taking the equipment off
• If the suit has been exposed to hazardous chemicals, exercise proper
decontamination procedures before removing
• Remove the suit by following in reverse order the steps for donning
the suit.
• Dispose off the suit according to your company procedure
Note: The person assisting in the doffing procedure should wear appropriate
PPE, selected by a competent person

6. Emergency Doffing/Rip-cord

strip positioned on the left shoulder as you wear the suit. Under normal
conditions this can be used as means of rapidly doffing the suit. Alternatively
the strip can be used in an emergency to enable rapid doffing.
• Grasp the strip with one hand and tear downwards across the
chest. Once torn the fabric can be torn further by using two hands,
if necessary.
• Remove arms from sleeves, withdraw head from hood, unfasten the
fan unit waist belt and lower the suit to the floor. Step carefully out of
the suit.
Note: Once the rip-cord has been utilised the suit is no longer operational

7. Storage/Maintenance

MICROGARD products may be stored according to customary storage
®
practices. Ensure the suit is stored in such away so as not to damage the
visor. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or other heat sources. Storage
temperature: from +5
Note: The suits are designed as single use and should not be re-used

8. Disposal

MICROGARD suits can be incinerated or buried in controlled landfill
without harming the environment. Disposal restrictions depend only
upon the contaminant introduced during use.
