Electrical safety

1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power
tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will
r e d u c e r i s k o f e l e c t r i c s h o c k .
2. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. T h e r e i s a n i n c r e a s e d r i s k o f e l e c t r i c
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
3. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-
tions. W a t e r e n t e r i n g a p o w e r t o o l w i l l i n c r e a s e t h e
r i s k o f e l e c t r i c s h o c k .
4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges
or moving parts. D a m a g e d o r e n t a n g l e d c o r d s
i n c r e a s e t h e r i s k o f e l e c t r i c s h o c k .
5 . W hen operating a power tool outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. U s e o f
a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
e l e c t r i c s h o c k .
6 . If operating a power tool in a damp location
is unavoidable, use a residual current device
(RCD) protected supply. U s e o f a n R CD r e d u c e s
t h e r i s k o f e l e c t r i c s h o c k .
7 . Po er tools can produce electromagnetic fields
(EMF) that are not harmful to the user. H o w e v e r ,
u s e r s o f p a c e m a k e r s a n d o t h e r s i m i l a r m e d i c a l
d e v i c e s s h o u l d c o n t a c t t h e m a k e r o f t h e i r d e v i c e
and/or doctor for advice before operating this power
t o o l .

Personal safety

1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool. Do
not use a power tool while you are tired or under
the in uence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A
m o m e n t o f i n a t t e n t i o n w h i l e o p e r a t i n g p o w e r t o o l s
may result in serious personal injury.
2. Use personal protective equipment. Always
wear eye protection. P r o t e c t i v e e q u i p m e n t s u c h
a s a d u s t m a s k , n o n - s k i d s a f e t y s h o e s , h a r d h a t o r
h e a r i n g p r o t e c t i o n u s e d f o r a p p r o p r i a t e c o n d i t i o n s
will reduce personal injuries.
3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the
s itch is in the o -position before connecting
to power source and/or battery pack, picking up
or carrying the tool. C a r r y i n g p o w e r t o o l s w i t h y o u r
finger on the switch or energising power tools that
h a v e t h e s w i t c h o n i n v i t e s a c c i d e n t s .
4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the power tool on. A w r e n c h o r a k e y l e f t
a t t a c h e d t o a r o t a t i n g p a r t o f t h e p o w e r t o o l m a y
result in personal injury.
5 . Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and bal-
ance at all times. This enables better control of the
p o w e r t o o l i n u n e x p e c t e d s i t u a t i o n s .
6 . Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from
moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair
can be caught in moving parts.
7 . If devices are provided for the connection of
dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure
these are connected and properly used. U s e o f
d u s t c o l l e c t i o n c a n r e d u c e d u s t - r e l a t e d h a z a r d s .
8. Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use
of tools allow you to become complacent and
ignore tool safety principles. A c a r e l e s s a c t i o n
can cause severe injury within a fraction of a
s e c o n d .
9 . Always wear protective goggles to protect
your eyes from injury when using power tools.
The goggles must comply with ANSI Z87.1 in
the USA, EN 166 in Europe, or AS/NZS 1336
in Australia/New Zealand. In Australia/New
Zealand, it is legally required to wear a face
shield to protect your face, too.
It is an employer ' s responsibility to enforce
the use of appropriate safety protective equip-
ments by the tool operators and by other per-
sons in the immediate working area.
Power tool use and care
1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct
power tool for your application. T h e c o r r e c t
power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate
f o r w h i c h i t w a s d e s i g n e d .
2. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not
turn it on and o . Any power tool that cannot be
controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be
r e p a i r e d .
3. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/
or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from
the power tool before making any adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing power tools.

4. Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil-
dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar with
the power tool or these instructions to operate

h a n d s o f u n t r a i n e d u s e r s .
