Before starting the machine each day, perform the
Each Use/Daily procedures listed in
(page 23).
Using the Safety-Interlock
System
WARNING
If the safety-interlock switches are
disconnected or damaged, the machine could
operate unexpectedly, causing personal
injury.
• Do not tamper with the interlock switches.
• Check the operation of the interlock
switches daily and replace any damaged
switches before operating the machine.
Understanding the
Safety-Interlock System
The safety-interlock system is designed to prevent the
machine from starting unless:
•
The blade-control switch (PTO) is disengaged.
•
The parking brake is disengaged.
•
You are seated in the operator's seat.
•
The drive-mode switch is in the F
N position.

The safety-interlock system also is designed to
prevent the mower blades from engaging unless the
drive-mode switch is in the F
Testing the Safety-Interlock
System
Test the safety-interlock system before you use the
machine each time. If the safety system does not
operate as described below, have an Authorized
Service Dealer repair the safety system immediately.

1. Sit on the seat, engage the parking brake, move
the drive-mode switch to the F
and move the blade-control switch to the O
position. Try starting the machine; the machine
should not start.
2. Sit on the seat, disengage the parking brake,
move the drive-mode switch to the F
position, and move the blade-control switch to
the O position. Try starting the machine; the
N
machine should not start.
3. Sit on the seat, disengage the parking brake,
move the drive-mode switch to the R
position, and move the blade-control switch to
the O position. Try starting the machine; the
FF
machine should not start.
4. Sit on the seat, disengage the parking brake,
move the drive-mode switch to the F
position, and move the blade-control switch to
the O position. Start the machine. While the
FF
machine is running, rise slightly from the seat;
the machine should shut off.
5. Sit on the seat, disengage the parking brake,
move the drive-mode switch to the F
position, and move the blade-control switch to
the O position. Start the machine. While the
FF
machine is running, engage the blade-control
switch, and rise slightly from the seat; the mower
blades and machine should shut off.
6. Sit on the seat, disengage the parking brake,
move the drive-mode switch to the F
position, and move the blade-control switch to
the O position. Start the machine. While the
FF
machine is running, engage the blade-control
switch, and move the drive-mode switch to the
R position; the mower blades should
