Connecting the Visualizer to a computer / network
There are two methods to establish a LAN connection between the Visualizer and a computer or
network:
Method 1: Direct connection using a cross-over cable

If you want to connect the Visualizer to only one computer just connect the LAN-port (RJ-45) of
the Visualizer to the LAN-port of your computer using an cross-over Ethernet cable (UTP
Category 5).
Please note:
With this direct connection the length of the cable is limited.
It depends on the quality of the cable and the quality of the network card of the PC how long the cable can be.
However we recommend that it should not be longer than approx. 10m (30 feet).
For longer cable runs use straight network cables and a Hub or Switch (see method 2).
Method 2: Network connection using a Hub or Switch

Connect the LAN-port (RJ-45) of the Visualizer to the Hub or Switch using an Ethernet straight
cable (UTP Category 5). Any port of the Hub/Switch can be used, except the cascade port (This
port has a cross-over connection).
Please note:
When connecting the Visualizer to the other unit on the network, the communication protocol of the two units
is adjusted automatically to 10BASE-T/100BASE-T and HDX/FDX (i.e. "Automatic negotiation"). Therefore it is
necessary that the unit communicating with the Visualizer also supports automatic negotiation. However
nearly all units today support this standard.
