Use and general safety
instructions
Product line description
To ensure you get the best comfort, fit and function out of
the product, it is important that you read the instructions
carefully and save them for future reference. Please refer
to the attenuation table for further details on noise
reduction. Make sure you have selected the correct
product for your application.
Approval and marking
The product Type 1 Medium FM1-20/Type 2 Medium
FM1-20 meets the Basic Safety Requirements as laid out
in Annex II of the European Community Directive 89/686/
EEC, the requirements of the EMC directive 2014/30/EU
and the RoHS directive 2011/65/EU. The product is tested
and approved by Finnish Institute of Occupational Health,
PL 40, 00251, Helsinki, Finland (Notified Body number
0403) and CE marked according to the relevant parts of
EN352-1:2002, EN352-3:2002, EN352-4:2001/A1:2005,
EN352-6:2002 and EN352-8:2008.
General
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions.
WARNING! Hearing protectors can block out warning
cries, alarms or other important signals. Always pay extra
attention to surroundings when wearing hearing
protectors.
Hearing protection must always be worn in noisy
environments. They should be fitted prior to entering the
noise area.
WARNING! The product contains batteries and electrical
components that may cause ignition in flammable or
explosive atmospheres. Do not use in environments
where sparks may cause a fire or explosion.
Carelessness can result in serious personal injury or even
death.
CAUTION! The output of the electrical audio circuit of this
hearing protector may exceed the daily limit sound level.
CAUTION! The noise attenuation capability of the hearing
protectors is considerably reduced if the hearing
protectors are not used and maintained according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The protective equipment should only be used for the
applications it is intended for. Ask your retailer for advice
if you are unsure of which kind of protective equipment is
required for the application in question.
The product is designed to improve safety and working
conditions in noisy environments. Please refer to the
"Technical data" section for further details on attenuation
and noise reduction.
The product must not be modified or have any parts
removed, unless this is done in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
Product user guide
This ear-muff is provided with Level Dependent
attenuation and/or electrical audio input. The wearer
should check correct operation before use. If distortion or
failure is detected, the wearer should refer to the
manufacturer's advice for maintenance and replacement
of the battery.
This product may be adversely affected by certain
chemical substances. Further information should be
sought from the manufacturer.
Always ensure the protective equipment is properly
assembled, fitted and maintained according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
The condition of the protective equipment should be
checked regularly. A damaged equipment should always
be replaced.
Always use genuine accessories.
The fitting of hygiene covers to the cushions may affect
the acoustic performance of the ear-muffs.
Do not subject the product to rough handling, which can
damage the electronics.
Fitting
General
Before following the fitting instructions below, brush
excess hair aside and remove any ear jewellery that could
affect acoustic seal. The sealing rings should form a snug
fit against the head with no interference of the seal by any
objects e.g. respirator headbands or spectacles arms,
and that the ear-muffs completely enclose the ears.
Headband version (Figure A)
A 1: Make sure to put the headband the right way round.
The inside of the headband is marked with a letter L on
the left hand side and a letter R on the right hand side.
Ensure that the headband is positioned correctly. Adjust
the ear-muffs to a comfortable position.
A 2: With the headband over the head, adjust the height
of the ear-muffs by sliding them up or down, so they
completely enclose the ears.
Helmet mounted version (Figure B)
B 1: Left and right hear-muff. The ear-muffs are
designed to be either on the left hand side or on the right
hand side of the helmet. The ear-muff marked with the
letter L must be put on the left hand side and the ear-muff
marked with the letter R must be put on the right hand
side of the helmet. Make sure they are put the right way
round.
B 2-3: Fitting the ear-muffs. Pull the ear cup down to the
bottom of the yolk and lift the blade until the spring clicks
up (B2). Push the attachment blade firmly into the slot on
the side of the helmet until it clicks into place (B3).
Release the head harness from the rear of the helmet,
place the lead from the ear-muffs above the harness'
attachment and refit the harness. Make sure the lead is
not tangled.
