Video converter VGA to HDMI
Item no. 98 61 69
Intended use
The product is intended for the connection to an analogue VGA output of a computer where it
converts the analogue video signal to a digital, HDMI-compatible signal.
Thus, even older computers without digital video output (e.g. older notebooks) can be con-
nected to a modern fl at screen with HDMI jack.
As a special feature, the analogue audio signal can also be emitted via HDMI.
The video converter is powered via a free USB port.

these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequen-
tial damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by

• The unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not permitted for safety
and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.
• The product must not get damp or wet, as this will destroy it.
• Do not bend the cables, protect them from sharp edges.
• Do not pull the plug from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around since it could become a dangerous
plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental drops, even
from a low height.
Connection and Getting Started
• Exit the operating system and switch off your computer.
• Connect the VGA plug of the video converter to the analogue VGA output of your computer.
• If you want to playback the audio signal of the computer directly via the HDMI output of the
video converter, connect the 3.5 mm jack plug with the analogue audio output of the sound
card.
• The video converter is supplied with power via the USB plug. Connect it to a USB port of the
computer.
The USB port must be capable of providing a current of 500 mA (high-power USB
port). Therefore, use e.g. one of the USB ports on the rear of the PC.
If you decide to operate the video converter on a notebook, it might be required to
operate the notebook via its power pack (instead of using the accumulator), other-
wise the power via USB may not be suffi cient.
• Then connect the HDMI jack on the video converter's housing to the HDMI input of your
monitor using a HDMI-compatible cable.
• Switch on the monitor and then the computer. The power LED on the video converter lights
up.
• If your monitor has several inputs, you may have to select the HDMI input before you can see
an image on the computer.
If the video converter detects an HDMI device connected, the blue LED lights up.
Tips and Notes
www.conrad.com
• The video converter does not require a driver installation or the like, because it performs the
conversion of the analogue VGA signal to an HDMI signal via hardware.
Version 10/11
Thus, the converter does not depend on the operating system used.
• Nearly every standard VGA resolution can be converted to an HDMI signal. Because there
are numerous graphics cards available and they emit different signals and signal levels,
some resolutions may not be convertible. In such cases, try using a higher or lower resolu-
tion. The refresh rate should be reduced to 60 Hz too, if it is set to e.g. 75 Hz.
• The playback of digital data carriers (DVD, Bluray) might not be possible since they require a
digital graphics card with HDCP in the computer.
However, the video converter converts the analogue VGA signal of the computer (which does not
support HDCP) into an HDMI signal. Hence, as inherent to their functional principle, it is not possible
to play back such data carriers because the PC only has an analogue graphics card whose
signal is converted into a digital signal externally.
• Select the correct output for the audio playback in the operating system, otherwise a play-
back of the audio signal via HDMI will not be possible. Furthermore, ensure that the 3.5 mm
phone jack is connected to the correct port of the computer (e.g. labelled with "Audio Out" or
"Line Out" or "Phones").
