Note
In plant where earthing of the secondary side
of the transformer is stipulated, the side of the
transformer connected to terminal 2 on EKS
61 must be earthed.
If screened cables are used they must only be
connected at one end and only at the
regulator to be protected.
Connect the screen to terminal 2. Normally,
screened cable is not required with EKS 61.
Before connecting the regulator, check all
lead connections, see fig. 10.
Warning
Incorrect connection can damage the
regulator.
Setting
Temperature setting
See figs. 13 and 14.
Set the required reference temperature on
switch REF and potentiometer REF.
Fig. 15 shows a temperature setting of –9°C.
Setting switch REF on –10°C and potentio-
meter REF on +1°C gives a temperature:
–10°C + (+1°C) = –9°C
Note: Switch REF must not be set halfway
between two steps of 10°C.
Lamp indication
There are three LED lamps on the front panel
of the unit.
Green ON/ALARM lamp
ON = constant light indicates: System
running. Alarm not released
Lamp out indicates: Alarm signal on alarm
output
Red LIMIT lamp
Light indicates: Sensor temperature T
outside the set alarm limit
Red HEAT lamp
Light indicates: Heating stage in operation
Function check
See fig. 15.

Measuring point for checking the reference
voltage
The stabilized supply voltage can be
checked by measuring V
REF
(5 V ±0.1 V d.c.)
4. V
. Measuring point for checking the
NTC
charge temperature in CVQ. To be
measured in relation to 0.
Loads >100 kohm for all measuring points.
Running-in
Before starting-up or running-in of a plant all
connections to and from EKS 61 must be
checked, see checklist fig. 10.
During running-in of EKS 61 + CVQ the plant
must be made to operate stably. Only EKS 61
+ CVQ must be able to alter the balance of
the plant. Fans, etc. must therefore not be cut
in and cut out.
1. Adjust the thermostatic expansion valve to
minimum stable superheat
2. Connect EKS 61 and set the required
reference temperature (temperature of
medium) on REF switch and REF
potentiometer
3. Measure media sensor temperature T
The measurement must be taken between
test point T
If necessary, the media sensor
temperature can be registered by a line
recorder connected to terminals 11-13.
If the system hunts, by registering the period
time of the hunting it is possible to determine
whether proportional amplification, K
high or integration time, T
Hunting can then be reduced by making
corrections of T
registered period time T
Period time > integration time
> T
(T
= 4 minutes)
p
n
A. Increase T
B. Wait until the system is again in balance
C. If the system still hunts, reduce K
example, 20% of the scale value
D. Wait until the system is in balance
E. If the system still hunts, repeat C and D.
Period time < integration time
< T
(T
= 4 minutes)
p
n
A. Reduce K
scale value
B. Wait until the plant is in balance
C. If the plant still hunts, repeat A and B
Function extensions
See fig. 8.
External alarm
There are facilities for connecting an external
alarm relay to supply voltage from EKS 61.
The connection must be made using
S1
terminals 22-23.
Max. load 0.5 A, 24 V a.c.
The alarm output is a triac break function
(NC).
Heating stage output
EKS 61 has a facility for the on/off regulation
of an electric heating stage.
Connection of the electric heating stage relay

must be made using terminals 24-25. Max.
