c) Inserting Batteries in the Outdoor Sensor
The DCF receiver is integrated in the outdoor sensor housing. For this reason, the outdoor sensor should
not be placed close to electrical/electronic devices, cables, sockets or metal parts during commissioning.
Reception of the DCF signal may be difficult in case of reinforced concrete build, metal-vaporised isolating
glass windows or in basements as well.
• Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the rain sensor by pulling out the battery holder. Insert two type AA/
mignon batteries with correct polarity into the battery holder (observe plus/+ and minus/-).
• Put the battery holder with the batteries in it back into the battery compartment.
• The red LED to the left of the battery compartment lights up for some seconds and then goes out. The outdoor
sensor transmits the first measured values; the weather station display now should show the temperature and
humidity at the bottom left, and the wind speed and rain volume should show "0.0" each. Furthermore, the direction
arrow for the wind direction is displayed.
• Then the red LED flashes 5x when a DCF signal was recognised and goes out after this.
Search for assessment of the DCF signal takes about 5 - 6 minutes. Do not move the outdoor sensor or the weather
station during this time and do not push any button at the weather station.
When the DCF signal was recognised and assessed, the red LED lights up for approx. 15 - 20 seconds and then
goes out.
The outdoor sensor now starts to transmit data to the weather station (measured data and time data). At every
transmission, the red LED to the left of the battery compartment of the outdoor sensor flashes briefly.
The outdoor sensor is ready for operation and can be installed outdoors; see following section.
If you do not see any current time in the display of the weather station after 10 minutes, remove the
batteries from the weather station and the outdoor sensor. Choose a different site of setup for the outdoor
sensor and weather station and proceed as described above.
You may lay the outdoor sensor down in the outdoor area as well during commissioning, e.g. on a balcony
or terrace, for better reception of the DCF signal.
Important:
While the search for the DCF signal is running. the radio transmission to the weather station is switched off
to prevent reception interferences. No new measured data are transferred to the weather station during
the search.
Further information regarding DCF reception can be found chapter 9.
