4.3. Refilling the spindle pumps

Refilling must be performed as follows and the work must be
performed in the order of the steps below.
Open one of the test connections on the rear flange (6) of the
■
pump (only when no pressure is present).
Turn the low-pressure spindle (2) clockwise until the pressure
■
medium in the opened test connection becomes visible.
Then turn the low-pressure spindle (2) counterclockwise as far
■
as it will go, watching the liquid level in the test connection as
you do so. Enough liquid should always be added so that the
level of liquid remains the same in the test connection. The
pump must be filled slowly so that as little air as possible is
drawn in.
Then use the same procedure to fill the high-pressure cylinder
■
(5b) by turning the high-pressure spindle (3) (for C1361 only). As
you do so, the low-pressure spindle (2) must remain screwed out
as far as it will go.
After the filling process is completed, wait about two minutes. This
will allow pockets of air in the filling medium to come together. All
that is required to check whether the pump is ready for operation
is a small clockwise turning motion for both spindles. The filling
level in the test connection openings should be carefully observed.
If air bubbles escape, the filling process is not yet completed and
should be repeated as described above.
Make certain the spindle pump is filled with the same filling
medium as the one originally supplied with the pump.
The oil-design spindle pump is generally filled with hydraulic oil
ESSO J 13.
