Safety precautions

WARNING
Always check the product for leaks, tears, cuts, holes, stains, or any
other damage prior to and during use.
Always check the patient's skin condition in areas of contact with the
torso or thigh wrap according to hospital protocol or as directed by a
physician.
Always turn or reposition the patient over the duration of therapy
according to hospital protocol.
Application of heat or cold are most effective when you apply the
body wrap directly to the skin.
Do not allow hoses to fold, kink, or to wrap around a patient.
Always keep the area between the patient
and the torso or thigh wrap dry.
CAUTION
Always follow hospital protocol when regulating temperature with
external devices.
Do not use if the package is damaged.
Always use these products with the Altrix controller. Consult the
Altrix controller operations manual before you connect this product.
Do not use this product if the patient has a transdermal medication
(patch).
Avoid the use of materials of good thermal conductivity, such
as water, gel, or similar substances with the Altrix controller not
powered on.
Do not apply thermal transfer devices to patients with ischemic limbs.
This may result in harm to the patient.
Do not reuse this product on another patient.
Do not use this product to position or transfer a patient.
Always wipe soil or contaminates from the wrap for patient safety.
Check the placement and tightness of the torso or leg wrap according
to hospital protocol.
Do not use sharp objects or pins with this product.
Do not block fluid pathways of the thermal transfer device with
restraints.
Assessing the patient's skin condition
Follow your hospital protocol.
Applying the torso wrap to the patient (see Figure 1)
1.
Position the torso wrap under the supine patient's rib cage.
Note: Avoid positioning the torso wrap edges above the bony
prominences or areas of sensitive skin.
2.
Close the wrap by fastening the Velcro® closures.
3.
Route the hose to the lateral side of the patient.
Applying the thigh wrap to the patient (see Figure 2)
1.
Position the thigh wrap just above the knee.
2.
Close the wrap by fastening the Velcro® closures.
3.
Route the hose to the lateral side of the patient's knee.
Checking for constriction of soft tissue
1.
Slide a finger along both sides of the wrap (top and bottom).
2.
Adjust the Velcro® closures, if necessary.
Connecting the hose to the Altrix Controller
1.
Attach the connector hoses to the torso or thigh wrap. Insert the
male coupling of torso or thigh wrap into the female coupling of hose.
Press until you hear a click.
2.
With a light pull, make sure that you lock all the connectors.
3.
Check that the torso or thigh wrap fills with water.

Note:
When reading radiology images taken of a patient with the torso
or thigh wrap, internal components may cause artifacts or distort
readings.
After the application of the wrap, the pattern of the wrap may appear
on the skin. The reddening will disappear within the same length of
time that you applied the wrap. This phenomenon is often mistaken
for injury, but is in fact reactive hyperemia.

Rechecking the patient's skin condition
Follow your hospital protocol.
Defibrillation considerations
1.
Open the torso wrap to expose the patient's chest.
2.
Remove excess moisture.
Disposal
Dispose of the product in accordance with your local waste management
policy.
In accordance with the European REACH regulation and other
environmental regulatory requirements the components that contain
declarable substances are listed.
