^ WARNING
Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are
essential in order for the product to help protect the wearer from
certain airborne contaminants. Failure to follow all instructions on
the use of these respiratory protection products and/or failure to
properly wear the complete product during all periods of exposure
may adversely affect the wearer's health, lead to severe or life
threatening illness or permanent disability.
For suitability and proper use follow local regulations, refer to all
information supplied or contact a safety professional or 3M on 0870 60

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The 3M™ Versaflo™ V-100E Cooling and 3M™ Versaflo™ V-200E
Heating units are designed to be used in conjunction with one of the
approved Headtops (see Reference Leaflet). These products meet the
requirements of EN14594 (Respiratory protective devices – Continuous
flow compressed air line breathing apparatus). The units are for adjusting
the air temperature supplied to the headtop. They are not flow regulators
but as the cooling/heating control or input pressure are varied, the volume
of air to the headtop also varies. The V-100E unit allows the user to cool
the air by a maximum of approximately 28°C and the V-200E unit to heat
the air by a maximum of approximately 28°C. The units are fitted with a
warning whistle.
APPROVALS
These products are type approved and audited annually by BSI, Kitemark
Court, Davy Avenue, Knowlhill, Milton Keynes MK5 8PP, UK, Notified Body
No. 0086.
These products are CE Marked to the requirements of either Community
Directive 89/686/EEC or European Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The
applicable specific legislation met by the products can be determined by
reviewing the Certificate and Declaration of Conformity available at the
following website www.3m.com/Respiratory/certs and
www.3m.com/Welding/certs
LIMITATIONS OF USE
Use this respirator strictly in accordance with all instructions:
• contained in this booklet
• accompanying other components of the system (e.g. V-100E/V-200E
Reference Leaflet, Headtop User Instructions).
Do not use in concentrations of contaminants above those given in the
Headtop user instructions.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric
contaminants or when concentrations of contaminants are unknown or
immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen. (3M
definition. Individual countries may apply their own limits on oxygen
deficiency. Seek advice if in doubt).
Only use with Headtops and Spares/Accessories listed in the reference
leaflet and within the usage conditions given in the Technical
Specification.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) Any part of the system becomes damaged.
b) Airflow into the headtop decreases or stops.
c) Breathing becomes difficult.
d) Dizziness or other distress occurs.
e) You smell or taste contaminants or irritation occurs.
Never modify or alter this product. Replace parts only with original 3M
spare parts.
Do not use oxygen or oxygen-enriched air.
In case of intended use in explosive atmospheres, contact 3M Technical
Service.
When used in temperatures below +4°C, the moisture content of the
breathing air should be controlled to avoid it freezing the apparatus.
Always ensure that:
• the source of air supply is known;
• the purity of the air supply is known;
• the air supply is of a breathable quality, to EN12021.
Ensure the capacity of the air supply system is sufficient for every user
connected to it.
At very high work rates, the pressure in the headtop may become negative
at peak inhalation flow.
This product should only be used in work situations where the risk of
damage to the compressed air supply tube is low and where movements
of the wearer are limited. The compressed air supply should be equipped
with an appropriately rated and adjusted pressure relief safety valve.
These units are not to be used with mobile compressed air supply
systems.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearer's skin are not
known to cause allergic reactions to the majority of individuals.
This product contains no components made from natural rubber latex.
EQUIPMENT MARKING
For Headtop marking please see appropriate Headtop user instructions.
The V-100E/V-200E units are marked EN14594.
The V-100E/V-200E units are marked with a date of manufacture.
The Compressed Air Supply tubes are marked to EN14594, EN270 and/or
EN1835 as appropriate. They are also marked as follows: - 308-00-35P
and 308-00-40P are marked A - suitable for use with Class A devices
(EN14594). - 308-00-72P is marked 'Heat Resistant' and 'Anti static'.
PREPARATION FOR USE
Check apparatus is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled. Any
damaged or defective parts must be replaced with original 3M spare parts
before use.
Undertake pre-use checks on headtop assembly as outlined in the
appropriate user instruction.
Inlet couplings must be fitted to the V-100E/V-200E units prior to initial use,
ensuring an airtight seal (Please see V-100E/V-200E Reference leaflet for
list of 3M approved couplings). Couplings should be fitted, using the
washer supplied, and tightened using a torque wrench to 15Nm ± 1Nm.
Maximum heating and cooling will only be obtained from compressors
capable of delivering more than 570 l/min (20 CFM) at 6 bar. The effect of
reduced free air capacity will be a reduction in the heating or cooling effect.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
DONNING
1. Select an approved breathing tube (see Reference leaflet for list of 3M
approved breathing tubes) and connect top end of the breathing tube to
the headtop assembly. Inspect the gasket located on the bayonet end of
the breathing tube (i.e. the end that connects to the unit) for signs of wear
or damage. If the seal is worn or damaged, the breathing tube should be
replaced.
2. Adjust and buckle the waist belt with the V-100E/V-200E unit
comfortably around your waist and connect the bottom end of the
breathing tube to the outlet of the unit.
3. Adjust the Headtop as outlined in the appropriate User Instruction.
4.Connect the compressed air supply tube between the optional 3M
Aircare Air Filter Unit and the V-100E/V-200E unit, ensuring the pressure at
the Air Filter Unit is adjusted as described in the Technical Specifications
section.
5.Ensure at least minimum airflow into the headtop is achieved and adjust
the V-100E/V-200E system for maximum comfort - see Fig 1a and 1b.
(The warning whistle will sound if below minimum airflow – please see fault
finding).
IN USE
Use with the air supply off is not normal, little or no protection is
provided and a build up of carbon dioxide and depletion of oxygen
within the Headtop may occur, vacate the contaminated area
immediately.
1. Take care to prevent the breathing tube from becoming looped around
protruding objects. If this should occur vacate the contaminated area and
check apparatus is undamaged.
2. Do not remove the headtop or turn off the air supply until you have
vacated the contaminated area.
3. At all times, the input pressure and temperature control should be
adjusted such that the whistle is not sounding. If the whistle does
sound, vacate the contaminated area immediately and investigate the
cause.
4. The 'in-use' life of the product will vary with frequency and conditions of
use. In everyday use, it is recommended that the product is discarded after
approximately 5 years service, provided the product is stored and
maintained as stated below. Some extreme conditions may result in
deterioration over a shorter period.
