Application
The air sampling smoke detection kit (Fig. 1, 2) detects
smoke in incoming air, outgoing air and circulation air
ducts of air conditioning and ventilation systems.
The air sampling smoke detection kit is only suitable for
indoor use.
Functional principle
The air sampling smoke detection kit is a passive
monitoring system without its own fan. It makes use of the
existing pressure difference in the ventilation system in
order to supply a continuous flow of air through a bypass
from the ventilation duct to the air sampling smoke
detection kit. The air sampling smoke detection kit only
works if the ventilation system is in operation and the air is
circulating.
The monitored air must be clean, i.e. free from dust and
aerosols. When a smoke concentration set on the smoke
detector is reached, the corresponding danger level is
signaled to the central control unit which initiates the
corresponding alarm.

Project planning
Calculate the distance for the installation site of the air
sampling smoke detection kit on the basis of the duct
dimensions, which is calculated from value Dh (refer to
formula in Fig. 4).
To ensure safe detection, the flow rate must be at
minimum 1 m/s. The distance to the possible smoke
source must be 5 x Dh.
