CD
Compact Discs (CD) are digital data media which need
to be handled carefully. These are the basic rules:
The surface of a CD should only ever be cleaned with
a soft dry cloth. Never wipe it in a circular motion, i. e.
along the tracks.
Never use petrol, paint thinners, disc cleaners or
similar materials on compact discs.
CDs must be handled carefully in order to avoid seri-
ous damage to the surface. Severely scratched sur-
faces, writing on the disc or applying self-adhesive
labels may result in the CD player being unable to
read the data.
CDs should not be heated or bent. This means that
they should be stored in a position and attitude which
meet these requirements.
dB
The unit of measurement for electrical levels is the deci-
Bel (dB).
DISPLAY MODE
The 
 button switches between the two display
modes on the CD-Player.
Track display:
The screen shows the operational mode and the cur-
rently playing track number, e. g.: 'PLAY 12'.
Time display:
The screen shows the elapsed time of the currently
playing track instead of the message 'PLAY', e. g.:
'10,30 12'.
DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
The CD-Player employs a fully programmable signal
processor (DSP). For this reason it produces better over-
sampling characteristics than are otherwise possible
using ready-made commercially available chips.
FIR (Finite Impulse Response filter)
Type of digital filter; characterised by linear phase and
frequency response.

Glossary

IIR (Infinite Impulse Response filter)
Type of digital filter; similar characteristics to analogue
filters.
MEMO program
The CD-Player allows the user to search for particular
tracks on a CD for playback, to store this selection in a
MEMO program and to play it back or record it on tape.
MIX
In MIX (shuffle) mode the tracks of a CD, or the tracks in
a MEMO program, are played back in random order.
SINGLE CD
A single CD is smaller in diameter than a conventional
CD and has a correspondingly shorter playing time. The
CD-Player is capable of playing back single CDs. A
circular recess in the player drawer permits the insertion
of a single CD.
STANDBY = 'ready' mode
When in the stand-by state the CD-Player can be swit-
ched on using the remote control handset.
TOC
The internal Table Of Contents of a CD. If the TOC area
of a CD is damaged or scratched and cannot be read,
the entire CD is unusable.
TRACK
This is the term used for a single unit of music on a CD.
The tracks and their duration are listed on the CD sleeve.
