9. Setup

a) Get ready

Wear protective clothing, gloves and goggles when handling reagents. Avoid any skin and eye
contact with the reagents.
Immediately flush with water if contact with reagents occurs.
• The meter is used to measure a glass electrode with an open-pore membrane. This membrane may not dry out, so
as to preserve its special properties.
• Please always check that there is enough storage liquid in the moisture container (20). The storage liquid (potas-
sium chloride, KCL) is 1:1 of the liquid in the electrode.
• Remove the moisture container (20) from the electrode to fill. The container is equipped with a rubber sealing ring
and placed on the electrode. The container should always be about 50% full.
• Always plug the moisture container onto the electrode during longer measuring pauses to prevent it from drying out.
• Provide distilled or deionised water and soft paper towels to clean the electrode.
• In order to ensure the function of this device over a long period of time, the pH electrode needs to be cleaned with
distilled water after each measurement (see maintenance and cleaning).
• The electrode is ready for use.

b) Connect the electrode

The electrode is a sensitive component. When not in use, always protect the electrode head with
the moisture container (20).
• When connecting the probe, make sure that the meter is turned off.
• Connect the electrode connector (18) to the BNC socket (1) on the measuring device. The plug is plugged in and
locked with a quarter turn (bayonet lock). To remove them, proceed in reverse order.

c) Connect the temperature sensor (optional)

• The measuring device can be equipped with an optional temperature sensor. This sensor enables automatic tem-
perature compensation during the measurement.
• Temperature compensation is always required as the pH changes with temperature fluctuations.
• Connect the plug of the optional temperature sensor to the jack "TEMP PROBE INPUT" above (10).
• The temperature value of the sensor is used as the reference value during the measurement.
