1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 Applications
This flow control instrument is used to protect the pump against any
dry running and when operating at zero flow to detect the speed of
the conveyed fluid. It switches off the pump motor when reaching less
than 50 % for a pump with a nominal flow of 2 m
series 2, 2 poles) and less than 20 % for pumps with a nominal flow of
3
4 m
/h and over (Multi-V/MVI series 4 and over, 2 poles). It has got the
ATEX approval.
This flow control instrument shall not be assembled on a pump with a
3
nominal flow of 1 m
/h: such flow cannot be detected (Multi-V/MVI –
series 1).
1.2 Technical characteristics
• Certification ATEX II 2 D T100°C
• Temperature range
• Ambient temperature
• Fluid temperature
• Voltage
• Operating range for water
• Protection index
2. SAFETY
This instruction must be read carefully before installing and starting
up. Pay special attention to the points relating to safety of the equip-
ment as regards intermediate or final user.

material damages.
3. TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
When receiving the materials, check that there has been no dama-
ge during the transport. If any defect has been stated, take the requi-
red steps with the carrier.
If the delivered materials are to be installed later
ATTENTION !
on, store them in a dry place and protect them
against impacts and any external effects (such as humidity, frost,
etc...).
4. STARTING UP
4.1 The pump
- Read the general starting instruction and look FIG. 1.
- It is required to provide a valve and pressure gauge on the delive-
ry side and a contactor with a delay time of 30s maximum.
Never start the pump without having filled it in
ATTENTION !
before.
- Choose the pressure gauge according to the manometric head of
the pump at zero flow + static pressure.
4.2 Sensor
- The sensor shall be assembled in the top part of the pump, remove
the venting plug and use the unions provided if need be.
- Screw the sensor on so that the active part is 1 mm far from any
metallic part.
- Seal the connections by using teflon.
4.3 Flow control instrument
- This device shall be placed out of any risky area, fixed on a track
inside a control box.
3
/h (Multi-V/MVI
: - 15° to + 100°C
: + 40°C max.
: + 80°C max.
: 230 VAC
: 100 cm/s
: IP 67
It is required to read carefully the instruction from the
ATTENTION !
manufacturer to observe the electric power supply,
the setting and the operating mode.
4.4 Electric installation recommended (See FIG. 2)
- motor is supplied with a contactor with delay time. There are two
push-buttons, one for the starting up and one for the pump stop.
To extend the cable length of the sensor to go out
ATTENTION !
of the risky area it is recommended to use a
cable, connections and accessories provided as option.
4.5 Setting of the requirement value
- Installation is finished, valve and pressure gauge are placed on deli-
very side, pump is filled in, motor can be switched on (See FIG. 1).
- Lock action of the flow control instrument in turning the basic
potentiometer to the right hand side.
- Pump is stopped, measure the static pressure (Ps).
ATTENTION !
Static pressure shall be stable.
- Switch the pump in normal operating, valve opened, the pressure
gauge shows a pressure.
- Close the valve on delivery side, the pressure gauges shows a new
value higher than the first one, this is the pressure at zero flow (Pdn).
This pressure value (Pdn) is very significant. It is
used to calculate the pressure value to set the
ATTENTION !
flow at 50 or 20 % according to pump type.
Value of the setting pressure (Pr)
3
Pumps 2 m
/h : Pr = (Pdn - Ps) x 0.85 + Ps
Pumps 4 m
3
/h and over : Pr = (Pdn - Ps) x 0.95 + Ps
Example : Pompe de 2 m
Pdn read : 6.2 Bar
Setting value (Pdn - Ps) x 0.85 + Ps = (6.2 – 4) x 0.85 + 4 = 5.9 Bar.
- Value read with the pressure gauge when opening gradually the
valve.
- Now the pump is set for a minimum allowed flow that represents the
requirement point of the flow control instrument.
Calibration of the requirement value of the flow control instrument
Refer to the manufacturer instruction.
- Use two setting potentiometers (one basic and one accurate) turn
so that the orange light is on and the green led blinks.
- Check the setting by closing the valve, red light is on and motor
pump stops.
When the red light is on, an operating defect
ATTENTION !
appeared and the pump is stopped because a
valve is closed or the pump is not primed anymore. The defect needs
to be deleted to start the pump again. In normal running all green
leds are on.
- Use the delay time 0-25s of the flow control instrument to postpone
the switching off especially to avoid micro cut-off due to an irregu-
lar flow.
Setting of the contactor delay time
Delay shall be set so that the pump starts and information is given to
the control device to detect any movement of the fluid in stabilized
flow.
